Everyone has an opinion on whether the WEC’s 155 pounders could compete in the UFC post merger, and Sean Sherk is part of everyone, so Sean Sherk obviously has an opinion. Sherk doesn’t think the WEC fighters are contenders, and predictably, some people are annoyed at what they perceive to be Sherk disrespecting to guys like Anthony Pettis, Ben Henderson, Donald Cerrone, Kamal Shalorus, etc. Hat tip to The Hammer MMA for the interview (for you impatient people, just watch the 1st 2 minutes): Really, Sherk’s opinion isn’t as extreme as some people are making it out to be. Anthony Pettis is the only “contender” for the belt at the moment from the WEC, and that was because he was promised a unification bout. Donald Cerrone and a couple others have won their first fights in the UFC, but Cerrone beat Paul Kelly, who wouldn’t be described as a contender.
