Been there, done that. Miguel Torres defeated contender Manny Tapia, who until tonight was undefeated. Torres retains the bantamweight WEC title. Straight down the pipe with the right hand in the second round. In the first round Torres tried some crazy axe-kick, which basically is a front flip designed with one thing in mind: the back of the heel coming down on your head, face or knee. Devastating if you can land it, which Torres nearly did. It was the MMA equivalent of attempting a half-court shot with plenty of time on the clock in the first quarter of a basketball game. Torres is unorthodox, but his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai striking skills are so strong, and his reach so decidedly an advantage in this fight, he was afforded the ability to play around a bit. He also landed an excellent backfist. Torres now has 36 professional fights and only one loss, and that was more than five years ago and only by decision.
