Danica Patrick had a very solid performance, especially for a rookie, at Martinsville Speedway Sunday. She finished 12th in the STP Gas Booster 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Sunday. It was the second-best finish for Danica Patrick in her 16-race Sprint Cup career. Danica finished eighth in the season-opening Daytona 500. “Having never been at Martinsville before, I didn’t know what to expect,” Danica Patrick said. “All I knew was that it was going to be a little bit crazy. It was good day for GoDaddy and obviously the Hendrick engines were very strong today. I felt like I made a lot of passes. I feel like I just passed all day. But I’m sure a lot of people do that on a short track. It was a nice day for us. It was nice to have a good weekend.” Danica Patrick bested some other name drivers in their Martinsville debuts, like her team owner, as Tony Stewart finished 20th in his first Martinsville start (1999). Five-time Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson finished 35th in his Martinsville debut (2002). NASCAR Hall of Famer Rusty Wallace finished 15th (1984). Dale Jarrett finished 14th (1984). Dale Earnhardt Jr. finished 26th (2000). Kyle Busch finished 39th (2005). Matt Kenseth finished 21st (2000). Kurt Busch finished 37th (2000). Fred Lorenzen finished 24th (1956).  Danica Patrick qualified 32nd and became the first woman to start a Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville. Paul M. Banks is the owner of The Sports Bank.net.
