With a qualifying lap of 38.410 seconds, 187.451 seconds, Denny Hamlin captured the Coors Light Pole Award for Sunday afternoon’s Auto Club 400 at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California. The pole is Hamlin’s 13th career and third at the 2.0 mile asphalt track.
Greg Bifle and Brad Keselowski round out the top three.
Unfortunately, the No. 16 blew an engine in practice and will have to drop to the bvack of the field, as will the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion. Keselowski’s Blue Duece made an engine change just to be on the safe side since the track keeps RPMs high for the entire 400 miles.
With the changes, Kyle Busch will join his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate on the starting grid.
Coverage for the Auto Club 400 begins at 3pm EST on Fox.
