A long time partnership for Jeff Gordon is coming to an end — kind of. At the same time a new sponsorship opportunity has been found for the four-time Sprint Cup Series champion — kind of.
Give me a chance to explain.
Dupont Automotive Refinishes which have been a sponsor on Gordon’s Chevrolet since he began his Sprint Cup Series career at Atlanta in 1992, have rebranded and have officially changed their name.
In a press release Monday it was announced that the Carlyle Group — an investment firm which owns Hertz Rental Car, Allison Transmission and Dunkin’ Donuts — have acquired Dupont’s paint business. They have now been rebranded as Axalta Coating Systems. What does this mean? For now nothing but a simple name change.
