Ron Hornaday competed in the inaugural NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) event at Texas Motor Speedway on June 6, 1997
After making the headlines for his tangle with Kyle Busch in last year’s Fall event at the Fort Worth speedway, Ron Hornaday will be looking to make a different kind of headline this year by capturing Joe Denette Motorsports’ (JDM) first NCWTS victory
Lone Star State Stats…With a distinct reputation for excitement, Texas Motor Speedway’s two annual NCWTS events are some of the most anticipated on the schedule. Hornaday has led 681 laps at the speedway en route to three wins (June/October 2008 and June 2011) as well as six top-five and 11 top-10 finishes in 19 starts at the Fort Worth 1.5-mile tri-oval. Hornaday boasts an average start of 8.5 coupled with an average finish of 12.5 and has completed 89.4 percent of laps attempted (2699 of 3018).
Chassis History…The No. 9 Joe Denette Motorsports team will unload chassis No. 7 for this weekend’s NCWTS at TMS. This is the same Chevrolet Silverado that Hornaday piloted to a 19th-place finish after starting 10th at Pocono Raceway earlier this season.
Get to the Point…Despite a disappointing 33rd-place finish in the last NCWTS event at Martinsville Speedway, Hornaday advanced one position from 13th to 12th in the 2012 NCWTS driver point standings following the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway. Hornaday is 47 points out of the top-10 and 195 points behind leader, James Buescher.
Ron Hornaday, Jr. on Texas…“I’m really looking forward to Texas, it’s a track that I’ve had some success at and we are bringing a chassis that has shown some really good numbers in the wind tunnel and on the engine dyno. With Doug Howe on board, our trucks are finally handling right and our program is heading in the right direction. We have had really good trucks the last few weekends; we have just had problems out of our control plague us. With those events behind us we are fully focused on the last three races of the season, starting with Texas. I feel like we will be strong this weekend and our goal is to go out there and show everyone we are here and a force to be reckoned with. ”
