It was a rough day for drivers Brad Keselowski, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, and Mark Martin during practice for the Daytona 500. Keselowski and Earnhardt were plagued by mechanical failures, whereas Newman, Edwards, and Martin were caught up in a wreck.
Keselowski had a fuel system issue that required repair. “Something went wrong with the fuel system in the car. That’s not what you want when you’re in front of the pack because when your car slows down, they’ve got nowhere to go and it could cause a wreck,” said Keselowski after getting to the garage. When pressed about it, he responded “something broke in the fuel system, but I don’t know what.” But the silver lining is that no engine change will be necessary.
