Found January 19, 2012 on Dan Shanoff:
As a lifelong Wizards fan, there are only a handful of great moments I can point to. Signing Bernard King was a fun one. Trading for Chris Webber was a great one. (Trading him away for Mitch Richmond, not so much.) Signing Gilbert Arenas (before things went... y'know.)Two summers ago, when the Wizards won the John Wall Lottery, that was the closest thing I had ever experienced to the ecstasy of a championship with this team, which otherwise had given me so much frustration over the years -- no year more than this one, when the "rebuild" seemed like a vacant foreclosure. This season, the Wizards started with one win in their first baker's dozen of games -- by far the worst record in the NBA, but even worse, the Wiz gave the worst effort in the NBA. Andray Blatche is the worst. JaVale McGee is a knucklehead. Nick Young and Jordan Crawford shoot way too much. John Wall's body language suggested he was serving time.Last night, the Thunder -- the model of how a winni...

JaVale McGee’s Mother: ‘My Son is the Future of the NBA’

The last time many of us paid any mind to JaVale McGee’s mom, she was smooching Dr. J during the Dunk Contest. This time, she gives a fascinating interview to the WaPo about her son: “He is not a knucklehead,’ Pamela McGee says. ‘JaVale is a good kid. My son is special. He has gifts you can’t teach: hands, height and heart. If I’m the Wizards and I’m really...

Nick Young Trying To Change Perceptions

Once you get a reputation in the NBA, it is very difficult to change it. Reporters and broadcasters will hammer that reputation down for their neat little stories. Coaches and general managers do not have the time to watch game tape or be around the player long enough to change perceptions. When a player with a bad reputation hits the market it stays with them -- see the story of...

Wizards’ Flip Saunders finds reasons to eat well

Flip Saunders recently lamented how losing has affected him to the point that his diet of late has consisted of only eating at the Subway just steps away from his condo in the District because he felt sorry for himself. But after the Wizards delivered arguably his most gratifying victory since taking over as coach nearly three years ago, Saunders said the moment required something...

Javale McGee’s mom would like you to know that she didn’t raise a ‘knucklehead’

JaVale McGee, we're sorry, has spent a good chunk of his four NBA seasons playing like a bit of a knucklehead. There might be a sound NBA player in there somewhere, but so far the Washington Wizards center seems to want to remain the guy who chases down big stats and silly dunks at the expense of typical basketball protocol. Wizards brass, coaching staff, and fans seem in constant...
