TEAMS: Houston Rockets, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Mavericks, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics
According to Tim McMahon of ESPN Dallas, the Dallas Mavericks look to make a run at former Houston Rockets power forward Luis Scola if they’re unable to land former Philadelphia 76ers’ big man Elton Brand.
Both players were waived through the amnesty clause by their teams recently. With the Mavs having a lot of cap space, they are one of the first teams to have bids on amnestied players, based off NBA rules.
Scola averaged about 16 points and six rebounds per game last season as the 32-year-old had three years and $21 million left on his contract. Dallas can sign him for a reasonable price as they hope to build more pieces for Dirk Nowitzki, who has already seen a lot of key pieces leave like Jason Kidd and Jason Terry.
However, Dallas will likely sign one of these two players. Along with adding Dahntay Jones and Darren Collison through a trade, the Mavericks may not be as bad as expected earlier this past week.
