The Philadelphia 76ers are playing some great basketball in this shortened season, sitting atop the Atlantic Division (12-6) and could put a scare in any of the top Eastern Conference teams come playoffs. Their division foe, the New York Knicks (7-13), on the other hand, are pretty much a disappointment considering their offseason acquisition of Tyson Chandler to add to Carmelo Anthony and Amar'e Stoudemire.

So considering these two teams are heading in opposite directions, would the 76ers even think about tinkering with their team's momentum and want to bring in (or save) Amar'e from New York?

No.

According to Philly's Rod Thorn, reports his team expressed interest in adding Amar'e to their squad are false.

"No, that's completely false," the source said. "There have been no conversations with them about Amare."

Though I bet Amar'e would might have welcomed a trade to a winning team rather than being stuck in purgatory, this was a no-brainer for the 76ers. Why fix what isn't broken?

Philly is playing great ball, are on a current three-game winning streak, and team chemistry is set. Adding Amar'e would have disrupted the flow of the team and having to mesh a guy he needs touches, would not have been a good thing for the 76ers.

Not to mention Philly was scared off of Stoudemire's knees and his hefty contract.

The Sixers are not interested in Stoudemire because he can no longer fully insure his left knee, according to the Inquirer's source.

After this season, Stoudemire has three years and $65 million left on his contract. He’s making over $18 million this season.
