Philadelphia 76ers Coach Doug Collins has the team playing great basketball, but still fans are staying away.

The Philadelphia 76ers are the best team in the NBA that you’re not watching.

Well… Actually, you ARE watching, you’re just not attending.

While the Philadelphia 76ers have put together a 10-3 record and a 3 game lead in the Atlantic Conference, they have done so playing in front of half-filled houses. The 76ers are currently averaging under 14,000 people per game in attendance at the Wells Fargo Center, despite a glistening and impressive 6-0 home record. That puts the 76ers at #29 in the NBA in attendance (out of 30 teams).

While attendance at the games has not been particularly strong, despite the impressive team game the Sixers are playing, TV ratings are up almost 60%. Those are impressive numbers, and indicate that folks are interested, but they’re not quite sold yet.

The new owners of the 76ers have even significantly cut ticket prices in hopes of spurring on the attendance. Second level tickets are between $10.00 and $17.76. You can’t go to too many professional sporting events for those prices. Thy becomes especially true when you factor in the fact that the team is playing well.

While I understand, to a certain extent, it still shocks me that a team that is playing good basketball, is a likable group of guys, plays old school team basketball and is headed by an amazing man in Doug Collins isn’t drawing bigger crowds.

I know it’s early in the season and the Sixers have yet to take down an established team, but all you have to do is watch a game or two to see why they are creating a buzz around the NBA.

When the NBA power rankings came out today on ESPN, the Philadelphia 76ers, a team that started 3-13 a year ago, were ranked #3 behind only the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Chicago Bulls.

I’m not saying there will be a parade this year, but I know one thing for certain… Philly sports fans get behind teams with character that play the game right.

So what’s the hold up?
