Would you feel this way if Al Jefferson is not involved? Because a nucleus of Pierce, Ray Allen, KG and Jefferson is going to be tough to contend with in the East. At minimum, it makes them relevant and enjoyable to watch, even if its only a one or two season window. If Jefferson remains in Boston, they only piece they would give up that has any value is Green and he seems to be a bit of a project and will probably be wearing another uniform other than Boston's when he reaches his full potential anyway.
Looks like Jefferson is now in the deal again so disregard all that nonsense I wrote above. I still like the trio there but I still don't think they can compete with they cream of the Western crop even if they do make it out of the East.
I really HATE, LOTHE, CAN'T STAND THIS DEAL! I really like KG man! Even at 31, he is still a franchise player! He needs a to be part of a collective team who puts emphasis on team pride, togetherness, and toughness! It's not like he isn't vocal enough! i just wish he would remain out West! The only exception to the for the EAST i will make is Detroit! They Will win with him there! THEY WILL WIN IT ALL!
yea right that's never gonna happen. KG a.k.a one of the biggest stars in Minnesota sports history for jefferson who hasn't proven to be much of a factor in the NBA yet, Aging Theo Ratliff who only averaged 2 points and had a contract of 11,000,000 dollars last year, and Rondo who only averaged 6.4 points per game last year!
Think about how bad Glen Taylor is as a GM and it probably makes perfect sense to him. The Celtics will probably make the playoffs with the roster they have now but with KG, it will make them a real contender, especially that they play in the Eastern Conference.
I'm straight up sad for KG to leave Minnesota b/c I always associate him w/ that team. But the guy deserves to win and he has a totally legit chance in the Atlantic. KG, Ray Allen & Paul Pierce?...they're gonna be favorites and at least he'll win a few playoff series.
I'm so sorry you guys in Boston are going to have to go to the playoffs after having avoided it for so long.
That must be terrible.
But hey, cheer up -- maybe you can go back to 24-58 in the 09-10 season, when KG gets a serious case of ring fever after a couple of first and second round exits at the hands of Detroit and Cleveland, and he jets out for wherever Kobe is.
My bad. You're right. And they had a first-round exit the year before that as well, preceded by semis and conf. finals appearances. I'd forgotten, and was thinking of the 6 year drought before then.
it's a great deal for the C's that will get them in the finals. Sure, cap's a mess, but you have to take the shot. Rondo, if healthy, can man the PG spot.
And btw, this is the same Bill Simmons who whines like a woman about no teams having balls to pull of big deals and gamble.
Also I don't particular see how this gets them to the finals autmotically, they have 3 players and no roster. Rondo isn't that good. Do they have a chance certainly, but favorites, eh, I dont think so.
The Timberwolves had the trio of Cassell, Spreewell, and KG. KG and Cassell had the best seasons of their careers that year, plus they had Szczerbiak and a decent crew of fill-ins. If you look at the Celtics roster now, I don't think their trio is better than the '03-'04 Wolves trio, plus no supporting cast whatsoever. Good luck? Luck of the irish or whatever.
Celtics are in the East, and it's a weaker path to the finals. LBJ was able to carry his squad to to the finals by himself, with a little help from Boobie. Who's better? Pistons maybe. Heat, huge maybe. Cavs? Please.
Rondo is good, he's young, and turnover prone, but he'll know that he has to get the ball to ray ray, pierce or KG. Kendrick Perkins is a workmanlike big - Diop/ Dampier were good enough to get the Mavs to the finals in a stronger West. The bench is young, no doubt, but it's full of solid players.
The East is wide open folks, and this move puts them right at the top of it.
This seems to be the catch all phrase of the 2007-08 NBA Season. "Since LeBron James led the weak Cavs through the East now players from the West want to come over and lead lesser teams too".
The Cavs played amazing defense this year, that's why they were able to get to the Finals. The team that played the best defense? The San Antonio Spurs. Which is why they were the Champions. The Celtics still won't play enough defense to reach the finals in 08'.
Have you watched Perkins play. He's a poor poor man's Charles Oakley and he isn't big enough to play center. He's listed at 6-10 and thats slightly doubtful. And their bench is hideous. They have nothing on the bench so the Big Three will be forced to log many many miles.
I agree with ursportspro, why don't more people point out the fact that their roster still won't play enough defense to get them to the top. ray allen & paul pierce can outscore their opponents, but can they play defense? and I don't know, last time I checked doc rivers is still coaching that team...
A day before the draft, the idea of competing was incomprehensible. Here we are - about 30 days removed and we're legitimate contenders - yet you guys are still bitching! Typical Bostonians.
I hated losing Big Al just as much as the next guy, but I'd much rather have a legitimate contender for the next 2-3 years than the
I'm a T-wolves fan. We love KG but the team sucked. I hope the Celtics win 'cause KG, Pierce, and Ray deserve to be on a championship team. It's good for the NBA if the Celtics can turn it around. We now have several talented players, some who will kick it up and some who will not. As long as their competitive, and don't slack off, I'm in with season tickets.
