Found March 25, 2008 on Fear the Beard:
Covert
Some of you surely knew this, but for those who don't, the call made against Monta Ellis in overtime?for essentially being tackled by Derek Fisher?was made by Bob Delaney. Now, I'm not saying Bob Delaney has mob ties just because he once successfully infiltrated the mob. But I am saying that "Bobby Covert," as he was known back in the 1970s has been known to successfully play both sides of the fence with some large degree of presumed credibility. Read more and make your own call.

  • you speak the truth.
  • That call Delaney made was just plain hideious!!! I cant believe a ref of his caliber make a bad call as the one he made. Not onl did he not have the angle, he decided the game, not the players. Also the other two refs were just in the wrong as Delaney. They should have corrected him. An ugly way to end what was a great game. It should of been a no call a best. Or a foul on Fisher since he pulled Ellis to the floor.
  • come on now GS fan..............you guys r better than this...............refs make good calls and bad callsm but the better team always wins
  • Ordinarily, I would agree. You can look back through three hundred odd blog posts and you'll only see a couple that even mention refereeing. This game was actually that bad. You did see it right?
  • on the edge of my seat for the whole 2nd half....................yer rite officiating was horrible and calss went lakers way at the end
  • I saw Baron get wrapped up at least 3 times with no call. But what pisses me the hell off is that Derek effing Fisher does that shady ass move all the time! He did it last year in the playoffs. From where I sit I could see monta's jersey getting pulled. Could anyone see that angle on tv?
The Lakers get favorable calls all the time. It's complete crap and I am PISSED!
What makes it even worse are all the punk b**** Laker fans sitting next to me.
    grrr...
  • Repeat after me GSWgirl: "Calm blue ocean. Calm blue ocean. Calm blue ocean..."
  • When I think calm blue ocean here is what I see.......
last years playoffs and those ugly blue shirts the Jazz fans were wearing. And Derek Fisher sinking shots left and right.
    It doesn't help.

I did forget my beard at home lastnight. I think that was the problem.
  • Bad call no doubt, but you're completely reaching if you're pulling out the mob/rigging card.
Delaney had a bad view of the play, and from his perspective it would look like Monta just ran over Fish. Savy, vet move.
Now, if you want to argue the refs shouldn't decide these things, I'm right with you. But come on now.

Besides, Warriors were lucky to catch the Lakers twice without Gasol - not to mention Bynum.
  • It might be a reach, but it's still an interesting set of coincidences. Was making the point that refs shouldn't decide these things articulated strongly enough last year during the playoffs? After Tim Donaghy was indicted? For personally deciding the outcome of playoff games. Frankly, it wasn't articulated all that clearly then either. So, sure, it might be a bit slanderous to imply a connection, but nobody should be sleeping on odd outcomes after last year either.
  • Man eff that ref. he making my blood boil. he's god damn cheat. we all know who shoulda won that game. And no actually the calls that the ref's make do actually impact a game. WIthout that call being made we couldve took it home or gone into double overtime. That was a really crappy call.

  • woulda could an shoulda..........
  • shoulda woulda prada
  • prada he make those fancy clothes rite?
  • it just sucked to see such a good game be decided by a call like that...i still want to know if they were gonna put up a 3 or go for the tie
  • The book says play for the tie at home. That means it would have been a Baron three for the win!
  • The spread for the game was 3, now that the ref called that foul on Monte and not Fisher to make the Lakers win by 4 he had money on the game the NBA needs to look into that.
  • omg i dont even know what to say.
lemme start off by saying i wasnt at home to watch the game, so what i do to keep in touch with the game is listen on the radio while i drive.
me and my best friend listened to the last 2 minutes before OT. i listened to the the rest of the 5 on the way home.
lil reminder.. i was DRIVING while listening to those LAST 5 minutes.
DEAR GOD, BY THE TIME I GOT HOME I THINK I MIGHT HAVE KILLED PPL THE WAY I WAS DRIVING I WAS SO DAMN MAD.
i was bitching and cussing in my car 10 minutes after the game was over.
i predicted that i wouldnt be able to sleep... and i had to get up @ 5 for training. now what do u effin know.. i DID NOT SLEEP BECAUSE OF THAT GAME! i was so infuriated with that call.
HOW COULD ANYONE DO THAT TO OUR BAY BAY MONTA! how dare they!
ok im sorry im mad because 20 minutes ago final score decided to show that lil clip OVER AND OVER AND OVER again, and my day went from ok to even more pissed off.

    F U DEREK DUMBASS FISHER DAMN U!

    im a pissed off fan.
    watch out.

    stupid ref.

    BLARG!

    the end
  • I feel ya girl.
try being there having your heart ripped out of your chest and stomped on while the lakers fans in your section point and laugh at you. weak. that was perhaps the best game but most heart wrenching loss of the season.
To be fair though, after watching the youtube clip 4562863747 times, it looks like fisher didn't really mean to pull him down. I think he tripped & took him down with him. I say the ref blew that one.
  • blew that one for freakin sure and i think there will be fans after his ass. he better steer clear.
  • What I don't understand is where was the other ref's??? The one that had a clear view of the play didn't try to over rule the other ref! Man poor Monta... I bet he wanted to explode when that happened. The lakers do get hella breaks on calls. I don't know how many times Baron was fouled goin to the hoop and no call, but as soon as kobe takes it inside its all kinda whistles blowin! I can't stand that about the Lakers!

Warriors get one right by extending Nelson's contract

I'm here at Candlestick Park, waiting for the 49ers-Seahawks game to begin, so I thought I'd use the time to weigh in on Warriors coach Don Nelson's new two-year contract extension. Of course I love it. I've ripped Warriors owner Chris Cohan and president Robert Rowell for pushing point guard Baron Davis out the door and killing a tentative three-year extension that lame...

Fallout!

Nine Days. That's how long the Nuggets playoff run lasted. The first time the Nuggets Organization has ever been swept in a playoff series. It's time to say goodbye to these Nuggets as they go off to their summer time pleasure, Iverson to make another horrible rap album, Nene to play soccer on the beaches of Brazil, Martin to bed down the rest of the Nuggets Dance squad...

Some fishy business going on with the Warriors

As Randy Moss might put it, something "fishy" is going on in the Warriors' front office, specifically with the relationship between executive vice president Chris Mullin and his bosses, team president Robert Rowell and owner Chris Cohan. Mullin is in the final year of his contract. He's a lame duck. But there have been no discussions about a contract extension and no talks...

Louis Williams: The Forgotten Sixers Free Agent

We are deep into the Sixers off-season, and thus far most of the conversation has been about the Elton Brand signing, the Andre Iguodala contract situation and the 76ers summer league squad. So it got me thinking, what about Louis Williams? There hasn't been much talk about the fans' feelings regarding his future with the team and his contract situation. Williams hasn...

Shaq Versus Kobe (Again)

Just when you thought the "Shaq-Kobe feud" was over... I'm not going to link to Shaq's recent "rap" about Kobe Bryant, Patrick Ewing and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar; I'm sure that you either have already seen it or can easily find it if you are so inclined. Isn't it interesting that Shaq dissed Hall of Fame centers Abdul-Jabbar and Ewing but that the media is more interested in...

Lakers survive game three 87-81

The Lakers didn't play their best game and were extremely fortunate to come out of game three with a victory. The final tally was 87-81, but this was not the blow out redemption game many expected. Sure Kobe was strong down the stretch and Sasha was clutch off the bench, but the Celtics were right there, even with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce having off shooting games. &...

One that got away

The Warriors came out flat but came back only to lose the game late. Ryan Gomes hit two free throws with under one minute left to give the Timberwolves a 109-198 lead which they would not relinquish. Monta Ellis scored 28 points and hit 10 points to lead the Warriors.
