D'Antoni chose profit over prosper

Mike D'Antoni skipped the Chicago Bulls (who are perfect for his style of play) to coach the lowly Knicks because they gave him more moola.

Choosing a job that pays the best is nothing to be ashamed of.

Exactly.

Besides, if they really are trying to get the franchise turned around...I'd say Mike D'Antoni is a damn good start.

he would be a better fit for bulls job----thats the nba---he stealing from the nicks---no players, beside marbury--

I think they'll clean up that roster and maybe build around D'Antonis style.

Just my guess. We'll see though.

They do need to clean up the roster. But my question is who the heck is going to take those guys - especially the drama queens with the baggage and hefty paychecks. Where do ya ship 'em? Are you willing to take Marbury - the $20 million man - in Phoenix? My guess is that not a lot of other folks will want him (or Randolph, or Curry) at their price tags either. I guess we'll see.

Ever consider that some people LIKE to take on challenges?

People often say that D'Antoni's coaching style - i.e., run and gun offense - won't work with the Knicks, and that the Bulls would have been a better fit. But how do we know that's his "coaching style?" Sure, that's been the playing style in Phoenix under his watch. But I don't know if that's a product of the coach, or a product of the type of players Phoenix had on their roster, including the Steve Nash acquisition. Maybe D'Antoni isn't so much of a "run and gun" coach as he is a coach who is very good at adapting the team's style to focus on their talents and strengths.

If D'Antoni is taking this job to tackel a challenge then he had better be ready for some substantial growing pains. He's got a team that is old and slow--it's going to take some time for him to get 'his' type of player in there. By that time, he'll be pegged as a failure and the Knicks will then hire another coach.

I'm not arguing with that. I'm just saying, the problem may not be that the New York Knicks don't fit Mike D'Antoni's system - the problem might be that basketball doesn't fit the New York Knicks.

that's hilarious

LOL!!

Very nice! LMAO!

If the players can do it, why not the coaches?

D'antoni made the right move. The problem is with the Knicks. Obviously if you're going to pay someone 24 million dollars you're going to have some expectations. Any expectations won't be met with this team. If you look at the history of the Knicks it's likely that D'antoni will be coaching for a year and then collecting checks from Maui for the next 3 years. That or he'll settle for a huge contract buyout and then he can go coach somewhere else.

Mr. D knows what he's doing. If the Knicks start winning some games, mabye he's there for more than a year, but he's kind of in a no-lose situation.

There hasn't been a coach that's been able to function with this team for more than a few months. If Larry Brown failed so miserably, I have trouble seeing why D'antoni will do well...especially concidering if he fails he'll get a HUGE check and be able walk away.

Not sure what kind of talent he has to work with as I don't keep up with the Knicks, but I don't think they have any big stars besides Marbury.

The underlying issue is that the Knicks have shown a history of buying out contracts of players and coaches who don't work out. When someone gets a big contract (which they all are) it makes more finanical sense for them not to work hard, get their contract bought out, then move on to the next team. We've seen it again and again, from Lenny Wilkins to Larry Brown. What we know is that the team has some talented players, but they're unmotivated to work together. D'antoni will hate life a few months in and what's his motivation to grind it out and do well? Nothing, he'll land on his feet. The Knicks are in a strange position. They need someone who doesn't have a blosoming career and won't land another coaching job the second his contract gets bought out.

If u wanna get paid go to the Knicks!!!!! The Cashout Team of the NBA

of all parties involved, Donnie Walsh(President of Knicks) is to blame!

It was definitely a money move. That and the expectations in NY are a lot lower. The Knicks haven't made the playoffs in about 5 years, it took the Knicks two seasons to win as many games as D'Antoni and the Suns won THIS season. He really doesn't have to work that hard. I'm not a D'Antoni fan because he doesn't coach any real defense. That's crazy to me. But the Knicks probably have lower expectations for him. 1) Finish the season at .500. I would have taken that gig too. It's practically a cake walk. I'm pretty sure they are going to bring in a couple guys to fit this whole Seven Seconds or Less scheme that D'Antoni is known for.

It's not going to be a lot of fun, but you gotta get that money.

Plus, he could always try and move people around and maybe get someone good in the draft. Getting rid of Curry and grabbing Rose could make this a .500 team in the East.

It will be interesting to see how D'Antoni's run-and-gun style is going to fit into the Eastern Conference where they are mostly about defense.
