One of the by-products of the Billups-for-Iverson swap is that the Detroit Pistons will have a ton of cap space in the summer of 2010, when LeBron James and a number of high-profile free agents could potentially hit the free market. Henry Abbott of TrueHoop goes through the options. (Read the rest after the jump.)

  • I cannot see LeBron leaving Cleveland for Detroit. He has openly implied that his show will hit Broadway in the near future…playing at MSG.
  • i see where hes getin this storyy. i heard it too
lebron is a free agent next year.
pistons got rid of two pay checks to bring lebron in next year
cleveland is prolly gonna have to work twice as hard to get lebron
    back
  • Lebron to leave Cleveland who says tht heheheeeeeeeee u have to stop dreamin u guyz pls stop dreamin. This guy has not made the team to shine and he is the only one to make it shine. Cleveland this season was to have an MVP and tht must be Lebron. Not Detroit. To hell with Detroit.
  • Not likely ..Lebron feels he is ready for the Big Time and Big Tent ..but he should be wary of New York where the adulation can turn nasty. There will be a lot of pressure stemming from his kind of contract and awfully HIGH expectations. From that standpoint Cleveland, Detroit or Europe would be wiser. The NY media would eat Lebron alive and destroy him if his game doesn't measure up ...ask A-Rod.
  • Lebron isnt going to Detroit or New York, he's going to New Jersey in 2010 to play for his new BFF who goes by the name of Shawn Carter aka Jay-Z aka Hova aka Young H.O.!! Lol... Mark my words!
  • dumars is smart. i wouldn't discount detroit just yet.
  • upon taking a peek at all the rumors, it seems that bosh is a pretty coveted target as well.
  • LeBron in Detroit with Iverson, Wallace, Prince and Stuckey. Scary.
  • LeBron should go somewhere with a good GM, like the Knicks (Walsh) and Pistons (Dumars).

And in 2010, there won't be a team in New Jersey, so LBJ can't really go there ...
  • all i say is woooow that is so dmn nice to have a.i., lebron, and rasheed wallace.
  • Part of what makes a potential LeBron signing possible in 2010 is that Iverson's huge salary will be off the books. It is very unlikely that AI would still be around if the Pistons were able to land LeBron.
  • Lebron wants to win a championship and Detroit is the place to do it. Not some crap team like the Knicks.

Just coming across the wire right now....It's official per ASB of Mlive.com The Detroit Pistons have reached a tentative agreement to trade Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the Denver Nuggets for Allen Iverson. Allen Iverson Is Not the Answer

Traded again. If I'm a Pistons fan now, I do not like this trade.

A.I. Revists His Famous "Practice?" Speech In Detroit

In the pantheon of famous Sports' speeches, the Allen Iverson "Practice?" one ranks up near the top for me. I'd include it on a short list with Jimmy V's at the ESPYs, Lou Gehrig's "Luckiest Man", Jack Buck's Poem after 9/11 and Jim Mora's "Playoffs?" rant (sarcasm people). I don't know why but every time I hear the clip, I just start cracking up.Well fast forward to AI's press...

Allen Iverson Traded to Detroit Pistons for Chauncey Billups

After losing to the Boston Celtics in the 2008 Eastern Conference Finals, Detroit Pistons president Joe Dumars promised that there "are no sacred cows" on his roster. On Monday, Dumars proved he was a man of his word. Pistons have finalized a trade that sends stalwarts Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess to the Denver Nuggets for Allen Iverson...

Did Detroit get Allen Iverson to get Rasheed Wallace a weed-smoking buddy?

Basketball-wise, there is no other explanation other than that Joe Dumars traded away Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess for Allen Iverson other than he wanted to get Rasheed Wallace a weed-smoking buddy. This isn't a judgement on weed-smoking; it's quite possible that Wallace and Iverson will have a better time lighting up joints together than playing ball. Business...

Let's Swap Aging Point Guards: Chauncey Billups for Allen Iverson

As has been reported by a number of news outlets, the Pistons and Nuggets agreed on a trade yesterday that sent Allen Iverson to Detroit in return for Chauncey Billups, Antonio McDyess and Cheikh Samb. It's a deal that basically works for both teams, although I'm not quite enthusiastic about it contract-wise from Denver's point [...]

Pruitt Deserves Respect of King James

By Kevin Henkin Even a king, I suppose, is prone to uttering foolish words on occasion. Such as when LeBron James said about a three point shot made by Gabe Pruitt in a game against Cleveland last week, "Even a trash can gets a steak every once in a while." A trash can? Strong words. [...]

Mo Williams gamble paying off...so far.

With LeBron James on the bench to start the fourth quarter, Mo Williams led the Cavs on a 13-0 run that pushed Cleveland past Dallas, 100-81. How's this for a stretch of possessions to open the fourth quarter of a close game: Long jump shot, longer jump shot. Feed a teammate for a layup, then swish another jumper. Get another assist, then nail a 3-pointer from so deep that your...
