In case you haven't heard this blockbuster trade of epic proportions:
Kevin Love + Mike Miller + Brian Cardinal + Jason Collins for OJ Mayo + Marko Jaric + Antoine Walker + Greg Buckner.
WOW!
My initial reaction is that Minnesota made a sweet deal and Memphis got fleeced once again. Kevin McHale gets the power forward that he coveted to team up with Al Jefferson (Love studied tapes of McHale growing up, so there's a nice connection there). The T-Wolves also get rid of Marko Jaric's contract (3 years, $21.3 million remaining) and get to replace him with Mike Miller.
I'm shocked that Miller is being mentioned as a mere afterthought in this deal. The last time I checked, he was one of the top shooters in the league and an extremely versatile offensive weapon. I'm still not sold on Randy Foye, but a starting five of Foye, Miller, Corey Brewer, Love, and Big Al is pretty solid. Telfair, Snyder, and Gomes are all restricted free agents, but if retained, could form with McCants to give Minnesota a decent bench. Collins' contract expires in 1 year and Cardinal's ($13.05 million left) expires in 2.
Is this really the best Memphis could get in return for Love & Miller? I realize that they need a player with star power to sell some tickets, but I'm not convinced that OJ Mayo is going to be a guaranteed superstar like some people think. Remember, Mayo had (arguably) more talent around him at USC, but Beasley's Kansas St. squad beat them soundly in Round 1 of the tournament. Memphis really needed a talented big man, but they must have figured that Love was expendable when they traded for Darrell Arthur.
Jaric is a decent player, but I certainly wouldn't want to owe him $21 million over 3 years. Walker's contract expires after this season (he might get bought out), but according to Hoopshype, Buckner has 3 years and $12.06 million remaining if he exercises a player option. The Grizzlies have a lot of talent in their backcourt now (Mayo, Conley, Lowry, Crittenton), but none of those guys are proven (in the NBA at least). Rudy Gay is a stud, but he really needed some help up front. I don't like this trade for Memphis, but there are rumors that Mayo could be traded once again. We shall see?

Timberwolves Unveil New Logo As They Prepare For The Draft
The Wolves unveiled their new logo today, and I must say it's rather slick. Although I've heard awful rumors about their new unis (namely a big green tree going up the side *shudder*), but that aside the "new" logo that is just a revamped version of the original looks solid. I'll be watching the draft this evening and will report back with reactions to the Wolves draft.
Timberwolves unveil primary, secondary logos
Not only will the Wolves receive a facelift with a the selection of a touted rookie in tonight's NBA Draft, but it also will unveil a new, alternate logo. There's no question the design is fresh and the alternate logos are superb throwbacks. This is an excellent time for the up-and-coming franchise to change it's image.

Kevin Love Traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves
Well, I didn't want to say it before, but screw Memphis. Did we really want our boy to play in Memphis, the city that shares the same name of the university that beat UCLA in the Final Four?
It looks like Kevin Love is headed to the warm tropical beaches and white sands of…Minnesota. And he's [...]
Kevin Love to The Memphis Grizzlies at #5!
A hearty congratulations to Kevin Love, who was selected as the #5 pick overall in the NBA Draft. UCLA goes back to back at #4 and #5. What more could our basketball program ask for? I'm absolutely positive that Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook will represent UCLA the way it should be. I'll have more [...]
Grizzlies' Controversial Pick Will Change Basketball
"We're excited about this pick," said Grizzlies Head Coach Marc Iavaroni. "He has a hell of a work ethic. He was really killing people in the paint during his workout."
OJ Mayo's NBA All-Food Team
As OJ Mayo has now made his way on to the Memphis Grizzlies, he jokes about his name have already started. The Grizzlies' practices have already been called the "Mayo Clinic" and if OJ ever makes a last-second shot, I'm sure there will be a "Miracle Whip" headline or two. He now joins these fine players to make up the NBA All-Food Team:
Random Draft Day Thoughts
In an AP article reported in the Herald, Danny discussed his thoughts on this year's draft. Some of the highlights:
** The Celtics have worked out about 50 potential draftees, similar to last year's number, and that list has been reduced to 23 possible players for the 30th pick.
** There's not much room for the players the Celtics draft with the 30th and 60th picks...
