End of Season NBA Awards - EBSports Style
Alright my little precious ponies, it's that time again…time for me to break out my razors as I watch the final moments of the Sacramento Kings season dwindle and the scars on my wrists begin to appear as the NBA Lotto nears.
The good news in that for you, is you get to see my NBA Season Awards, which I understand you're thrilled about. So, without further ado…. durant.jpg NBA Rookie Of The Year: Kevin Durant - Now, this was somewhat of a default pick…simply because, well, I had to. Kevin did have an excellent end to the season, shooting nearly 50% for the final month on a depleted Sonics team, but, he got so many extra minutes, looks, and overall exposure…his competition was screwed from the get-go. Without a doubt, guys like Al Horford and Luis Scola deserve some mention…because they actually helped their teams quite a bit. 2 - Luis Scola 3 - Al Horford 4 - Al Thorton turk.jpg Most Improved Player: Hedo Turkoglu - I'm not sure how some people define this award…they're obviously stupid. I mean, I've heard Deron Williams named? Um, hi, yea… Deron Williams is a freaking stud…and was a freaking stud…and has been since he was abusing people in college. Being a Kings fan, I've seen just how far Hedo came from his 7th man role to being a star on the Orlando Magic. Yes, sure, Dwight Howard is a huge reason for his success, but, Hedo has to do it himself. Shaq really didn't help Samaki Walker become a top scorer in the NBA now, did he? Hedo's had a great season, and, I can't really think of a player more deserving. Andrew Bynum had a great season start, but, he lost some points due to injury in terms of this award. 2 - Rudy Gay 3 - Rajon Rondo 4 - Andrew Bynum manu.jpg 6th Man of the Year: Manu Ginobili - This, by far, was the easiest award to pick. It's hard to say Manu's really even a 6th man…he is by default, but…whatever. He's had an amazing season, better than the majority of starters in the NBA this year…and makes the Spurs go, just as much as Tim or Tony. Luis Scola and Leandro Barbosa has very nice seasons as well, but, nothing compared to Manu's. 2 - Leandro Barbosa 3 - Luis Scola 4 - Jose Calderon camby.jpg Defensive Player of the Year: Marcus Camby - This was a little tough for me to pick…simply because I love what Josh Smith does on the basketball court and much as I dislike Bruce Bowen, his knowledge of the game is highly impressive. Thus, that leaves me with Marcus Camby. I've heard a lot of issues about his defense, but, it's much more of a product of his teammates in Denver. Combine Marcus with a weak side defender like Ron Artest, and, that team would be lights out. Melo couldn't guard a turtle. Camby is a defensive force, when healthy. And no, I did not forget about KG…he could easily be replaced with Ron Artest in a 4A/4B situation. 2 - Bruce Bowen 3 - Josh Smith 4 - Ron Artest phil.jpg Coach of the Year: Phil Jackson - Yes, I understand, the typical answer here is Byronn Scott. And, by no means, do I have any issue with those who would pick Scott. He's done a fine job. I just happen to think Chris Paul is most of the reason for success in N.O. And that brings me back to Phil. Now, had he had Pau most of the season, I wouldn't have dreamt of giving this to him…the best wing in the game and one of the better big man..I could win with that. But, the talent around Kobe, good as Bynum was to start the season…was average for most of the year after injuries took their tole. Yet, they've been around the #1 slot all year, and will end up with it in about two minutes at the hands of the Kings. Phil does his masterful Jedi tricks, and takes a team full of role players, combines them with Kobe, and they win. Story of his career. He's nothing special with X's and O's…but…his masterful plan of merging ego's and getting the most out of his players is second to none. Somebody who I think has done a wonderful job, again, not a big X's and O's guy, but a great job getting the most from his team is Reggie Theus as well. No Mike Bibby sans 3 games, Ron Artest missed about 20 games, Brad Miller about 15, and Kevin Martin about 25…yet they were hovering around the .500 mark all season with starting lineups of Spencer Hawes, Quincy Douby, Francisco Garcia, and John Salmons. Stan Van Gundy did well also. 2 - Reggie Theus 3 - Rick Adelman 4 - Byron Scott paul.jpgkobe.jpg Most Valuable Player Award: Kobe Bryant & Chris Paul - Alright, alright, I know what you're thinking…but honestly, I've tried for weeks..and nothing can seperate the two. Both have played at amazing levels all season…and both are the heart and sole of their team. I honestly, really can't pick…and I do feel both are more than deserving of this award. The league can have Co-Rookies of the Year, so, I'm making them have Co-MVP's. Kobe and Chris played at a level above every other player this season, including KG and LeBron…and both are worthy of this honor..but no more than one or the other. First Team All NBA: Kevin Garnett LeBron James Dwight Howard Kobe Bryant Chris Paul Second Team All NBA: Amare Stoudemire Dirk Nowitski Tim Duncan Manu Ginobili Steve Nash All NBA Defensive Team Kevin Garnett Ron Artest Marcus Camby Josh Smith Bruce Bowen *yes, I know I botched the positions in the All Defense Team…those were the best 5 defensive players all season* So there you have it. Your 2007-2008 NBA Awards.
