Grizzlies/Lakers -- Grizzlies/Nets trades. A look inside.

Color me confused. What exactly are the Grizzlies doing?

In the Lakers trade, they give up Pau Gasol for Kwame Brown, Javaris Crittenton and 2 future first round picks.

Welcome back to being serious title contenders, Laker fans. I imagine Gasol being a very nice complement to Andrew Bynum

in the triangle. His game isn't predicated to the post, as he has a good jumpshot and some range, so he shouldn't clog the paint.

He also helps to shore things up immediately until Bynum does get back into the lineup from injury.

On the Grizzlies' end of the spectrum... I come away feeling very underwhelmed with their return. Not long ago they were close to a blockbuster deal with the Bulls and now... Kwame Brown is the most recognizable name coming their way.

I expect they brought Brown in specifically for his expiring $9M contract and would be surprised to see him with the team next year. Javaris Crittenton is a very talented young player, although you might not know as much because Phil Jackson has never been fond of playing rookies. However, I don't quite see where he fits in the plans as Mike Conley and Kyle Lowry are already occupying guard spots. Not to mention preseason acquisition Juan Carlos Navarro. I'd expect to see another deal involving one of those players before the deadline rolls around.

And finally there are the picks. It's always nice to get extra picks when you're a building team, however, with this move presumably pushing the Lake Show to the top of their conference, the picks will most likely be pretty low.

Then there is deal number two for the day. Stromile Swift for Jason Collins.

I don't get this deal at all. I hate to be overly negative, but Collins may be the least productive player in the NBA. And unlike Kwame Brown, he actually has another year left on his contract.

A front line of Darko Milicic, Brown and Collins is somewhat like a Mt.Rushmore of under-achievement.
