Had To Vent....

Yesterday I visited the childrens hospital to see a kid that was hit by a stray bullet. He is now paralyzed. He told me that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and I found out that he was coming from piano lessons!!! We have to wake up people. Our kids are not safe anymore. We need to take our streets back. Had to vent! Great kids deserve to live great lives! I'm out!

yea... too bad not a lot of people can experience that.. there are still a lot of poor people in this world. There are also a lot of poor people in the US. My neighborhood is surrounded by thugs and gangsters. It is hard to not get mug when you walk on the street... :/ I guess that's just life. People should play more sports and enjoy that.

My heart broke for that poor kid. What can we do to stop this nonsense??? This makes me feel very helpless.

Baron you rock!

It is a strange world we live in when we seem to have no regard for human life, especially the lives of children. And just when did this happen? When many of our people lost hope. When there seems to be no hope, no access, no opportunity, no connection, and no change on the horizon, there is no value for life. Keep doing the good hard work. BD. There are so many people who need you, to know you care, and to hear your message.

Have you seen that memorial for the kid on MLK? I think it's right by the 580 on-ramp. Got shot in the back by cops...had to be about 15 years old, judging by the painting of him. He must've done SOMETHING to put himself in that situation but still, so sad.

Entourage and Weeds very nice man! I havent seen much of season 4, but I have 1-3.5, so if you have made an appearance thats awesome and if you havent then you definately should!!!!
Yeah, those things are terrible to hear, but its great to hear that people we hold as role models really care about it. It would be easy for you guys to just turn around and not pay any attention to it but you visited this kid, that's whats special. You made his day! I'll root for you guys as long as you dont keep my Nuggets out of the playoff picture!! :) You guys have heart and I love it!

That's just sad. People who were just on their way, minding their own business, end up being the victim of a senseless act of violence they had no part in.

That's tough stuff. Life ain't fair. Big ups to you for doing what probably made that kid's day. He won't ever forget that, B.

That makes me sick to my stomach.

Not to get political, but it's just too darn easy to get a gun in this country. Guns don't make people bad, but they make it a lot easier for bad people to do bad things, resulting in unintended (or intended) consequences to innocent people minding their own business.

I've got a buddy teaching at a charter school in Oakland- go visit it and I'll guarantee you make a difference for at least one kid.
I used to teach at an "alternative" high school for kids with records, especially for gang-related issues and violent crimes. I saw first hand that these were children first, and that the armor of toughness they put up was often just to protect themselves (a prison mentality). It made me want to do more, but the issue is so ridiculously under-funded and mishandled that it seems hopeless at times. It takes a man with your influence to set the wheels of real change into motion. Start a movement, B!

Nice of you to go visit! I know what you mean I'm tired of bad things happening to young, good, people too.

Nice to hear you speak like this. Way too many professional athletes are playing into the "thug," role and it is giving our youth the wrong idea as to how to act as an athlete but more importantly as a person.

I know man. We have to do all we can to get these thugs off these streets. I feel you man deeply.

God bless u Baron for having so much care in the world for kids. its truely inspiring. I know many of us would like.. LOVE to know how to help you get the word out on how to help kids get off the streets and away from violence. I know ur documentary is more than enough, but who knows when well see it.
Let ur fans know whats up and how we can help out!

I lost my brother to those streets. Those streets fed me and killed my soul. But im resurrecting life aint easy, but you just gotta have faith. God is the answer in times of anger he is questioning our faith so dont give it up. Good luck to you, Mr. Davis

oh yea i heard about that ..i think it happened around the time a kid from my school got shot..man what has this world come to..i live in union city, a hecka small ass city, and like 3 people at my school have died this year cause of gang related violence

keep fighting... just like ball games... have faith and work hard.

that story is so so unforntunate. heard it a while back with mr. dennis richmond. man man, tough.
looking forward to meet my favorite texan, cpt. jack tomorrow. when are u making an appearance (of course you are my fave LosAn bud)

I know what you mean Baron. Just this past 2 maybe 3 weeks there have been 5 shootings in my area. 4 out of 5 dead. One of them was just a block away from my house. 3 of the deaths were teens. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. Without the shooter a gun is just a piece of metal. Thanks for sharing Baron! Stop the violence!

I'm sure you made that poor young man's day, Mr. Davis. Ability on the basketball court will fade and erode with age, but your selfless act of taking time out of your day to visit with a youngster is what makes you a star as far as I'm concerned. Much respect.

You know what BD, we are too selfish to take bake the streets. We are too concerned with what we get accumulate in terms of stuff. If half of us could start non-profits and teach our community the value of education and the enrichment taht sports provide, we maybe well on our way. Our kids can download a song for their iPods but can't create a resume and cover letter using a microsoft wizzard. I am in the phase of starting my own non-profit, it is not easy, but it more than necessary. Thank you for letting people see that sport crosses over many socioecomic landscapes.

That's real talk right there.

And I appreciate what you do. You have the money to just make some donations and be done with it. Giving your time shows you're willing to go the extra mile though and I can really get behind that. Props for that, Boom.

Keep ballin out!

I have to agree with you B.D. I live in a neighborhood in Colorado that is very safe and secure. Fortuneately, I do not have to deal with this kind of sadness, yet I do know of it. Im 17, and I feel horrible about this. It's not so much the kids, yet everyone. It feels like yesterday when Darrent Williams got shot down. That was a HORRIBLE night here in Denver. Sadly, Williams wasn't lucky enough to be paralyzed, he died! Pointless violence is what it is. I just hope to live to see the day where words speak louder than bullets.

AY B-diddy i'M from philly aka the muder capital of the country....something we in the city are truly ashamed of. Last week a 16yr. old was shot after a snowball fight. It's a shame to me that today's young people dont understand the seriousness of taking a life. However when role models such as yourself come out and vent out on these issues I think it sends a positive message to our young people. I personally thank you for being a good role model to the kids

I definitely feel you on that. Unfotunately, a bullet doesn't have a name on it anymore. Not only was it broad daylight, but that boy was taking piano lessons INDOORS! What is the world coming to??? It's hard for me to even take my nieces and nephews to the park without having to worry about something popping off. We as a community need to do all that we can to make these neighborhoods safer for our kids.

You're absolutely right. It is such a shame to know that innocent children are being victimized everyday by the hand of someone cruel. It troubles me more to know that a person can be minding their business and trouble seems to find them! Our children lives are truly at stack in this day and age. For those of us who believe in prayer, we need to pray for our children and their safety.

That's sad to hear! I'm from the Caribbean and its not like that down here...hope things get better 4 u all up there

Team First (how can we all come together as a team?), Courage (strength in numbers), No shortcuts (it takes hard work), Belief (we believe), Conquer (lets all do something). These are your "Golden Rules" how can we all unite to make change? This is all so sad and scarry, what can we do? Keep putting it out there, I appreciate everything that you do.
LIVE WITH INTENTION, PLAY WITH HEART, and WALK WITH SWAGGER

i love that sayin on his shirt! I have one of the Golden Rules shirts. its awesome.
and its just so genuine.
wish we could do more that involves those sayings by baron.

Speaking of injuries, you gotta serious playoff chance now (and before) that Yao is hurt...

That kids story is a sad one...I work right down the street from where it happened and its a nice neighborhood....he was indoors and a bullet fired from across the street (someone robing a gas station) goes through the wall of his piano school and hits him..thats just horrible....Thank You Baron for being such a good dude....it makes me proud to say i'm a Warrior Fan!

Your totally right. we need to do something about this. every day on the news you hear about some kid or adult getting killed or severely injured by some careless mistake some one made if it's from drunk driving or murder over depression.

If only there were more like you B. Lets hope that the famous and powerful will recognize their moral duty to fight Evil and be a champion for Good.

man....that's just messed up! i'm glad you went there to visit him, i bet you reli made his day worth while and made him smile when he saw you.
btw, a bunch of my friends on our guys bball team said they saw you watching their bball game on monday against stanley. i wish i was there....i'm doing my research paper on you and i reli would like to interview you. i'm doin well so far though, i got some help from a couple editors at the sf chronicle.
i also met stack jack this afternoon and got a lil pic signed, it was totally worth the hour wait and tell him thanks for coming out to the community and putting smiles on several peoples' faces. =)

thanks for showing love to the kids, much respect bro

i feel u tho baron tho, as a 19 year old father from da city of oakland aint nobody safe and will never be honestly. people arent alarmed about a shooting cuz it happen everyday man. athletes that play in oakland aint even safe. but yall could installl teen programs to keep us off the streets. football, baseball, basketball players in youths are declining in out city of OAKLAND cuz most of them are goin to detention centers like i did. children adults teens look up to our atheletes of oakland cuz our parents are crackheads, hoes, drug dealers, inmates etc etc. but when we meet these atheletes as kids, they act like: dicks, fake smiles, fuck it attitudes, annoyed by the people that support them.

I'm so happy to see you doing big things for the community Baron. I work with a non profit organization call Youth Radio in the heart of Oakland. We help kids who are considering to drop out, gang related, and those who have lost someone do to gun violence. Our main goal is to teach them new things that will help them believe in them selves again. We teach them broadcasting, music production, journalism, web and video production. What these kids need is a place where they can express them selves and believe in them. I applaud you Baron because lost of young people look up to you and by you doing positive things makes it even better. Hope you can visit our organization and help change the life of another young person. When you have the chance visit our website and gives us your feedback in what we can do better for young people. www.youthradio.org THANKS!!!!!

Baron, you are a good dude, even if I root against you when you are playing against my team. Keep doing what you are doing.

that is the saddest thing ive ever heard. sometimes this world is so messed up i cant even believe it. but there are good people in the world who can make changes.

Just keep being real BoomDizzle. People listen when you speak, simply because of who you are... so keep saying the right things at the right times. Props to you for venting somewhere that people will hear you.

it needs to be pointed out - people can't mortgage the future just for crap they're dealin' now, you never know that kid might have been the next big artist

Thanks for helping to bring about awareness, Baron. Living the the Bay, sometimes you just get desensitized to the shootings. They're always on the news, and it gets redundant hearing about them over and over that you don't realize the severity of the situation. I remember hearing about the kid you met not too long ago. It's heartbreaking. Please continue to use your platform to help induce change. (=

am from east oakland, n i remember reading up on dat story n remembering when da dad said dat he still hadnt told his son dat he would never b able to walk again, man dat go to me, it aint safe no more anywere in da town, thanks for bringin awareness to dis though

Baron, I currently attend the University of California Berkeley, I spent most of my childhood being arrested and never made it through high school, but here I am. I realize now that I have to give back. I mentor kids in the Fruitvale district of Oakland. Our goal is to teach the kids to learn from eachother, something called pedagogy, we are also trying to democratize education by allowing the kids to learn from there experiences outside of school. Schools dismiss the culture of these kids and dont allow them to read their world as opposed to reading a book that they cant relate to. The schools must do this because their funding depends on how the children do on standerized tests, so they worse they do the less money the school gets, its like we are gambling on the top few schools and forgetting about the schools who dont score high. The reason they dont score high is because the schools dont get money. Any ways the Anthropology department wants us to work at Catholic rich white kid schools next year. These schools score high because they are more culturally adapted to the tests. So talk to your friends and get in touch with the Archaeology or Anthropology department at CAL. We want to teach kids to embrace their culture and learn from their culture.
