The Heat honored former player Alonzo Mourning last night by retiring his #33. Mourning has meant a lot to the organization not only on the court, but off. Alonzo has his own charity foundation called the Zoe Foundation. The foundation assists families that are living in at-risk situations. After he was diagnosed with focal glomerulosclerosis, he started Zo’s Fund for Life. This campaign seeks to raise money for research in focal glomerulosclerosis. In 2007, along with a bunch of other professional athletes, he helped found Athletes for Hope. This organization encourages non-athletes to donate money for research.

Mounrning had this to say, “Just eight short years ago, eight short years ago, I didn’t envision this moment happening,” . “This is probably one of the greatest moments of my life and I’m honored to be here this evening.”

The actual game itself turned out to be a close one, but in the end the Magic pulled off a 101-95 win, despite 41 points from Dwyane Wade. Dwight Howard surpassed the 5000 rebound mark grabbing 18 rebounds and scoring 21 points. Wade had 41 points, four rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Wade took 34 shots. The Heat are now 39-35 while the Magic progress to 55-18.

Dwight Howard Is No Wilt Chamberlain

I am, I am, I am Superman and I know what’s happening.  I am, I am, I am Superman and I can do anything.  -REM Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go!  Last night, Dwight Howard passed the 5,000-rebound plateau.  Last night, Dwight Howard became the youngest player in NBA history to reach that milestone.  Last night [...]

Too Hot For Dallas

Will it be tonight in Game 6 or Thursday in Game 7? And will it be a blow-out like Game 4 -- which we won -- or a cliffhanger like Game 5 -- which we also won? Who cares, just so we do it! BTW, we might be the Heat, but I've never seen any athlete keep as cool as Dwyane Wade, 9 for 9 from the free...

BigMck

This has absolutely nothing to do with the Celtics, but I feel the need to point out the rumors about Dwayne Wade dating Star Jones. Star Jones, reportedly dating Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, has filed for a divorce from her husband of about three years, Al Reynolds. Say what? D-Wade should be dati...

Pretend It's A Playoff Game, And The Heat Are Suddenly Good Again

Let's see if I got this right. The Miami Heat are still supposed to be good because Shaquille O'Neal is still tall, Dwyane Wade is still making commercials, and Pat Riley's hair gel also doubles as a...

Howard's Way: Orlando Eliminates Toronto

Dwight Howard's playoff stats during Orlando's 4-1 win over Toronto rank alongside some of the numbers put up by the likes of Moses Malone, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Wilt Chamberlain--and the scariest number about Howard is not his points or rebounds but his age: 22.

Wizards Toughen Up Defense on Dwight Howard

I took in the Magic game against the Wizards tonight. I was looking for some dominating Dwight Howard clips to take but instead wound up taking some clips of great defense against Howard. There really wasn't anything special in the way they defended Howard. It was a lot of subtle things though. First ...

All hope lost?

Seriously, is it jump-off-the-ship time already? This has to be even more disappointing than the Dolphins' 1-15, because the Heat actually had some expectations. No one thought they'd be the Celtics, but any team with Dwyane Wade isn't supposed to...

Time for Wade to take some blame

This is Dwyane Wade’s team, so now he has to take a large share of the blame for its abysmal 8-21 start. Understand something: Wade might not be at fault, but he has to take responsibility. This isn’t Shaq’s team,...

DWYANE WADE OR MR. GLASS?

by Isaac, The World of IsaacI think it's high time Dwyane Wade gave up his nickname "Flash". Since winning the 2006 NBA Championship, Wade has spent more time in rehab that Lindsay Lohan. Now, Its a not question about if Dwayne Wade gets hurt, its a question of when. He's become a present day Penny H...

Kobe and D. Wade: Not the Best of Friends

Filed under: Heat, Lakers, NBA Gossip, NBA Videos If you've watched the Lakers play the Heat over the years, one thing has become abundantly clear: Kobe Bryant and Dwyane Wade just don't like each other. I noticed this first hand during last year's All-Star festivities. When all the other players see...

Salvation, or Maybe

That was ugly. To see Jason Williams nail his fourth three in the first half (in four attempts), to see the Heat bench explode in excitement... ugh. To see the Heat lead by 10 while Dwyane Wade has two points... To see Miami player after Miami player either waltz into the lane or bomb away with nary ...

Shaq-Free Replay (via True Hoop)

Dirtlocker points for: Marcus Banks, Shawn Marion, Shaquille O'Neal, Dwyane Wade, Billy Knight Remember when the NBA said that Atlanta and Miami would replay the last minute or so of a game that Shaquille O'Neal had been wrongly disqualified from? By far the most common email I have received this we...

My Day Too Late NFL Predictions

I forgot to post this before the games ran Sunday, but since I am the consummate professional, I am still going to reveal them here. Some of them were slightly off: * Arizona will beat out Carolina simply because they have such a dedication to the running game, and that's what everything else builds off of on offense. * The new Lions quarterback could very...

Ballin': WHAT'S WRONG IN NEW ORLEANS!? (via The Big Lead)

Dirtlocker points for: Shane Battier, Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, Dwight Howard, Andre Miller, Hedo Turkoglu, Carl Landry Los Angeles Lakers 121, Toronto 101: So the 'overrated' Kobe Bryant went off for 46 on the same day the Lakers traded for Pau Gasol. Lamar Oden was 2 assists short of a triple-d...

Magic Without D-Howard Come Back In Second Half To Beat Jazz 103-94

Marcin Gortat will not erase memories of Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard, but he was in the starting lineup to replace the All-Star Saturday night as Howard missed his first game of his NBA career. Howard injured his left knee, Friday night as the Magic lost to the Phoenix Suns and missed his first game after 531 straight contests. Now Gortat did nothing to distinguish himself...
