Kidd
The Dallas Mavericks have apparently countered the trades for Pau Gasol and Shaquille O'Neal by acquiring future Hall of Famer Jason Kidd and Malik Allen from the New Jersey Nets in exchange for budding young guard Devin Harris, Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George, DeSagana Diop, Maurice Ager, two first-round picks, and $3 million. It was an extremely steep price to pay for Kidd, especially considering what the Lakers paid for Gasol (doesn't look like Gregg Popovich will rip into this tra...

They say Stackhouse, however, his contract will be bought out by the nets and will return to Dallas after 30 days. Not too bad of a deal after all.

Cuban won't pick it up. Stack will be 34 this year. Go Young Mark Cuban! Go Young!

        Isn't Kidd also 34?

If they get past the first round in the playoffs, it might be a good deal. If not, then it wasn't.

Wow. I'm surprised people are hating on this trade. They only gave up one key contributor in Devin harris. The draft picks may hurt down the line but with scorers like dirk, josh howard and jason terry around kidd makes a great fit for this year. Unlike the suns they clearly were not going to win it all with their current roster and unlike the suns they did not have to give up one of their top three players and unlike the suns they got a guy who fits their system and unlike the suns they got a guy who is healthy and can still put up star minutes and numbers.
  • philly4lyfe
That sounds like alot for Kidd but it could pay off big for the Mavs.

I would call Jerry Stackhouse a key contributor , too. They may get him back, but that may not be guaranteed.
  • This is an idiotic deal at best. Jason Kid is 35 and will probably retire soon. Devon Harris is better than Jason Kidd was in his prime. But no, Devon Harris is not enough to get the "coveted" Jason Kidd. No Cuban sends more players, more money, and a few first round draft picks in order to get a washed up, overrated, has been who beats his wife. Based on how much was dealt away by the Mavs you would have thought they would have gotten a real basketball player: i.e Kobe, KG, Lebron, etc. But we don't need such players, because we have Dirk lolololololol :) The mavs are in such dire straits that they wont even have a chance to choke this year.
MAVS ARE FINISHED, I HAVE TO FIND A NEW TEAM, maybe the NETS now that over 50% of the MAVS are there

I wouldn't say that Harris is better than Kidd in his prime. Kidd is in the top 15 all-time in assists and still runs the floor better than Harris, even at the age of 35. I just don't think it's good for the Mavs in the long term. What are the Mavs going to be left with after Kidd retires? That's what I am worried about.

WOW! What a crazy trade. We might as well start calling them the New Jersey Mavericks. I can't believe this. JKidd will do amazing in Dallas and I wish him all the best...I really think New Jersey got the better of that deal. Well..maybe not the better deal right now, but I definitely think it will benefit NJ in the long run.

Harris, Stackhouse, George, Diop, Ager, draft-picks AND CASH!?! This season would definitely top my craziest trades in a season list, if I had one.
  • texasgirl
I don't know what's wrong with Cuban.... 5 players, draft picks, AND money? For Kidd? I think he made a BIG mistake, and I don't think this trade is gonna get him a championship...

Well, they got a forward in Malik Allen and another player, Antoine Wright, a Guard/Forward. Allen hasn't done much and not sure about Wright. Still don't like it. Oh well, I don't think Cuban called me before he did this. Let me check my cell phone and see if I missed a call.

what trade? George blocked it. It was not final. It was done in principal only. Avery and Cuban never thought it would 100% pass...

It doesn't look like this trade is going to happen. ESPN was calling it a done deal when infact it wasn't. George blocked the trade, so who else is Dallas going to throw in this deal?
  • th0mas
LMAO Devean George has a no trade clause...............................................................................
  • BayAreaSon79
Well, as much as I hate Dallas.......they still can't hang with Warriors. Jason, you should have come home baby boy!
  • FIVERINGS
    Placard_complete_small
They may have to throw in another player besides George to get it done. Eddie Jones says it's not going to be him. I don't think anyone has a big hankering to go up to Jersey. Guess we'll see what happens today.
  • With Kidd the Mavs will contend with the Warriors, as well as the Spurs and Suns just as they have for the past 3 years. Kidd brings that spark to the leader-less Maverick squad that has the potential to boost their enthusiasm and tempo during the game. The only risk with Kidd comes with age. He's an older player and probably has only 2 good years left in his career. They can definitely get it done...it will just have to come extremely soon.
  • Has anyone factored in Kidd's award-winning attitude. He'll no sooner get back to Dallas and start whining about not wanting to be there. Only difference between now and then, is that he is old and probably more disgruntled than before. What a bargain! Cuban needs to take a break from the crack-pipe, and look at the direction he is taking his team: backwards.

I'd be disgruntled too if I had to live in Jersey.

Yeah, they got it done, minus George and Stackhouse... It's really convoluted to me the way they're working Van Horn in there, but one of my co-workers said Van Horn is making out like a bandit, which I hadn't thought of before, especially if he's gonna make a few million and can retire again at the end of the season, without playing a lot of minutes. I'm not sure of the details of how he fits in to the whole thing, but I guess I'd come out of retirement for a few months if it's anything like the scenario I'm thinking...lol...
