Kidd
12 points, 11 rebounds, and 13 assists...just another night's work for the man known as J-Kidd. After six consecutive losses dating back to the 10th of November, Jason Kidd (along with the return of teammate Vincent Lamar Carter from an ankle injury) led the New Jersey Nets to a 106-101 victory over the Portland Trailblazers in the Rose Garden. It was Kidd's 3rd triple-double this season and 90th of his stellar career. Man! As a member of the New Jersey Nets, Kidd has already amassed 52 triple-doubles to this point. Jason Kidd may never catch Oscar (Robertson is the all-time leader with triple-doubles with 181) or Magic (Earvin Johnson is second on this short list with 138 "TD's") but he is by far the shortest player among the top five in this decorated group (Wilt Chamberlain is fourth with 78, while Boston's Larry Bird is fifth with 59). I can see Kidd hitting 100 triple-doubles by the end of the year... So what's next? Jason catching his idol Magic Johnson at 138? Well, we all can dream can't we... One thing is for sure, it's going to be a very exciting ride...no matter the outcome.

  • He may never actually get his due for being one of the best all-around players of our time. He makes everyone around him better, he routinely defends the other team's best player, and he is a proven performer in the clutch. And when was the last time you saw a 6'4" guard who consistently pulled down 7-9 boards a game? It is shameful that fans vote for the All-Star game because players like Vince Carter are selected over players like Kidd. He is one of my top-5 pgs of all-time along with Magic, Isiah, Stockton, and Payton. Anybody have a different list?
  • Jason Kidd is a douchebag. If the Nets do manage to make the playoffs this year, it will be fun to watch them lose in the first round again. Kidd is overrated and hasn't won shit.
  • Kidd is certainly a phenominally unique player, but would consider him in the top five, probably not even the top ten. It's true that he rebounds absurdly well, but that isn't a skill that I'd normally look for in a point guard. I'd readily sacrifice some of those boards if he weren't such an atrocious shooter. His lack of a jump shot game knocks him pretty far down on my list.
  • He doesn't make his jumpers, but he has an above average 3pt game, and he's a great low post scorer and finisher.
  • Personal grudges aside (douchebag?), I'm not sure how anybody with nearly 9,000 assists and two Finals appearances (where the second-best player on his team was--Kenyon Martin...) can be called overrated. A rule of thumb when it comes to a players worth is how he performs in the playoffs. Kidd has averaged a triple-double during a playoff series on at least two occasions (only Magic has done it more), and routinely makes clutch plays at the end of games. He is third all-time in tds, third all-time in assists per game in the post-season, and has been all-defensive 8 times. His jump-shot has always been suspect, but hauling down boards and playing both ends of the floor (unlike Nash, who I really like) are what sets him apart. A point guard's job isn't scoring so much as managing a game and distribution. If you can name a better guard than the one's I've named, feel free. But calling Kidd overrated sounds ignorant and grudge-like. Unless you are related to Joumana...then I understand.

For Blazers, future is here!!!

Ever since the Portland Trailblazers won the 2007 draft lottery and the rights to Greg Oden, they have been labeled by many as the "it" team of the future. Many predicted before this current season that the Blazers may fight for the 7th or 8th playoff seed in a tough Western Conference, but that they realistically wouldn't have a shot of doing great things until they...

Sober Seattle Saturday: The week in sports missed while you were intoxicated

Seahawks president Tim Ruskell set aside his Mormon Tabernacle Choir boy criteria for football players and slapped the franchise tag on linebacker Leroy Hill who will make $8.304 million next season. Who Will Blaze The Trail?

I have been back in the United States for only a day, most of which has been spent catching up on sleep and working on a few jobs, and already I am exhausted of hearing about who the Portland Trailblazers will select with the 1st overall pick. With that being said, Chris still did an excellent job covering the story in a succinct way [Portland number 1]. Everyone is wondering...

Feeling Fear, and Acting on It

As long as a team is winning, everything is great, right? Who wants to change a system or work on player dynamics or adjust defensive assignments when the squad is rolling? But then, somehow, the team loses. Bad luck? Too cocky? Not focused? Just a bad night? Whatever the case, there may be some blaming -- especially if the unit isn't truly tight. Sometimes, negativity subtly...
