Josh Howard's BDay bash had Mavs too hungover for Monday practice

The Mavericks were eliminated from the playoffs last night, and Avery Johnson was fired as head coach by owner Mark Cuban. The big story coming out of Dallas today though was that forward Josh Howard (who sucked throughout the series) threw a birthday bash on Sunday night after the Mavs' Game 4 loss. After instructing his players not to party during the playoffs, duh, Johnson was infuriated by his team and canceled practice. Howard, you should be ashamed of yourself. You've just made two gross errors in off the court conduct within the past week. Admitting to smoking pot and throwing a bash during the playoffs is a sure-fire way to get your ass traded.

Howard was being showered with praise during the Finals 2 years ago, now he's a locker room malcontent.

totally, he was likable back then

When will athletes learn not to let people take photos of them drunk? Or high.

Howard cooked up a batch of special brownies in honor of his birthday.

Yikes, that picture is a mess! Just all wrong, LOL...

isnt this picture like 2 years old?

it's from march 07.

Seems appropriate though, doesn't it?

Only four players attended the party, but I am not sure which ones. Doesn't matter now. Josh can party all he wants. He ain't going to be here next year after his performance during the playoffs and his his stupid interviews admitting that he smokes pot. Wonder what he would score on the Wunderlich test?

Negative 1.

I think your headline is a little misleading, nowhere in the actual content I've read online mentioned anything about being hungover. I know it could be a joke, and I'll look like an idiot, but it doesn't seem very responsible to post that.

Not thinking that the drunk part is the actual point. The idea that he threw a birthday party, during the playoffs, against his coaches instructions, and THEN they got eliminated, may be a slightly bigger issue.

I think he knew in his heart that Avery was on the way out.

If this is at all true, then he need his head cracked!!! He could have had a party anytime. He should have never pulled that off in the middle of the playoffs. And why did that fool let the whol world know that he smokes pot!!!! Man thats just stupid!!!!

Exactly.

This is an odd fall from grace... he was once one of the league's biggest surprises and it looked like he'd be a Maverick for life. After all of this, it looks like he may be on his way out of town. Sad.

You may me right. And after all this mess who would want him? If I had one word to use for most of these nba players it would be (THINK!!!!) Do anyone think anymore!!!!!! Just a bad move Josh!!!

Wow a man in his mid twenties celebrating a birthday?? I think before Sunday or the especially before the party that the Mavs had already tuned out the playoffs and begun dusting off the Golf clubs. Howard definitely started "dusting" a bit too early though. They haven't been the same since George refused to be dealt.

Avery was vehemently opposed to the Kidd trade. That was Cuban's deal. He screwed that up just like he screwed up when he let Nash get away. He only has himself to blame. Avery tried to work with what he had and that was it. Part of the blame was Avery's, but the owner needs to take a good looks at the moves he made and rethink the whole thing.

I understand that athletes are human and they have every right to socialize. However, when your team is facing elimination during the playoffs I think you should begin to look at what is more important. So many of these players party way too much during the regular season that I don't see how they can really be productive when they are out there on the b-ball court. There is a time and place for everything and that was not the right time...obviously!

Almost as dumb as trading for Jason Kidd

the one thing this article doesn't mention is that even though avery cancelled practice (you're talking about PRACTICE??!!) the dallas players got together anyway and had practice on their own. talk about the coach not having control or respect....

A lot of that stems from the fact that maybe the owner didn't have any respect for the coach.

When you loose respect for someone its hard to work with or for them. I think that he will do just fine somewhere else. Maybe he just needs fresh start.

this is old, so who cares now?

We'll send his sorry ass to the Nuggest.

i really hope they don't trade him.
he's one of the best players on the
whole team, and he's my favorite.
he shouldn't be trade; the mavs
are nothing without him.
