dallasnews.com:
It goes against my better judgment to blog a whole bunch on an off day, but we just got too much going on.
One of the best charity gigs by a Maverick player has started up and will be front and center at Wednesday's game.
Jason Terry's third annual coat drive will have its collection night at AAC for the game against the Spurs.
From 7 p.m. until the end of the first quarter (remember, 8:30 tipoff), fans can contribute used or new coats, jackets, sweaters, whatever outside of sections 109 and 122.
All fans that make a donation will get a $5 Dave & Buster's power card and a buy-one, get-one voucher to select Mavs games.
If you can't make it to the game, you can donate gear at all D & B locations until Nov. 30. After the coat drive is over, Terry will deliver the coats to a local homeless shelter.
And there's more. For every coat collected, Reebok is throwing in a pair of new shoes.
Terry is one of many Mavs who do plenty for the community. It never gets enough publicity in the paper because we simply don't have enough space. But they are to be commended for their efforts.

Mavericks injury update
There's good news and not-so-good news for the Mavericks on the injury front.
First, Tim Thomas will make his season debut tonight against San Antonio. He had right knee surgery in late September and pronounced himself ready to go after this morning's shootaround.
He's tired of being a spectator to the Mavericks' 8-3 start.
"It's always tough when you...
Nowitzki tallies 41 in win
Dirk Nowitzki scored 11 of his season-high 41 points in overtime and the short-handed Dallas Mavericks held on to beat the injury-depleted San Antonio Spurs 99-94 on Wednesday night.
Marion likely out
Shawn Marion is a "game-time decision, but probably doubtful,'' according to coach Rick Carlisle, who said he's not sure there's any chance Marion will play.
As for Tim Thomas, Carlisle will throw him out there.
"He's worked extremely hard to get back,'' Carlisle said. "Like Singleton, he's a guy on the team that's got to learn...
Ballin’: Dirk Nowitzki is Clutch
Dallas 115, Milwaukee 113: Difficultly on Dirk’s game-winner? 8.5. Brandon Jennings was “held” to 25 points, eight assists and seven rebounds two nights after exploding for 55. He forced a fadeaway triple with :03 left in regulation. It was an airball. Then, Dirk won it. Guy who surprised us: Ersan Ilyssova, a mask-wearing forward who [...]

Dirk Nowitzki hit a fallaway 18-footer as time expired in overtime to give the Dallas Mavericks a 115-113 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Monday night.
Sizing up the Spurs
The Mavericks have payback on their mind. As Dirk Nowitzki said, the Spurs "kind of embarrassed us'' last week in San Antonio when they took down the uninspired Mavericks without Tim Duncan or Tony Parker.
Tonight, the Mavericks will be the ones shortanded, with at least 40 percent of the starting lineup out (Josh Howard and Erick Dampier) and possibly a third member...
Ginobili out for good
Well, at least for the rest of the game.
He suffered a strained left groin and will sit out the rest of the night. That brings the total to five of the 10 preferred starters who are not playing tonight.
Shawn Marion, Josh Howard and Erick Dampier are out for the Mavs and Ginobili joins Tony Parker on the shelf for the Spurs.
After a quarter, the Spurs are up 21-19 after outscoring...
Well-timed defense
Sometimes, you pick your spots where you want to exert lots of defensive energy.
Mediocre at best most of the evening on the defensive end, the Mavericks have forced a turnover and a rushed jumper at the shot-clock buzzer. They scored after both of them, including a wide-open 3-pointer by Jason Terry in the corner.
Worse news for Detroit is that Rodney Stuckey hobbled off the court...
