Knicks' broadcasters takes on the brawl

Mike Breen said:

"This is turning into some kind of disaster."

"Absolutely no excuse for Collins on a hard foul like that" and "a completely unnecessary and disgraceful foul."

"Disgraceful for Carmelo Anthony to throw a punch like that and then go backing up."

"Just a disgraceful showing by several individual players."

"Just makes you sick to your stomach."

"Another dismal evening at Madison Square Garden, and this one turned ugly not only from a basketball standpoint."

"This night, another disaster at the Garden."

Walt Frasier kind of laughed.

One of the few good things abuot being a Knicks fan is having Breen in the booth. Other than Marv, he is as good as it gets. He did get a litte self righteous at the end, but thats the way people call games nowadays.

I get the occasional League Pass game with Breen as the announcer, and he seems like a great announcer. Frasier's kind of ridiculous though.

It's kind of an obscure reference now but Walt Frazier is like Damon Wayan's poetic inmate character on In Living Color, only unintentionally funny. He is always forcing out fifty cent vocabulary words in an attempt to sound educated. In college, we used to watch Knicks games and drink every time Walt Frazier uttered words like "serendipitous" and "coquettish".

Frazier is the kind of hometown hero that you enjoy only because he is one of your own. Kind of like Phil Rizzuto or Ken Harrelson. He is utterly ridiculous, but I still love hearing him call a game.

Absolutely, Breen is as good as it gets. It's probably not easy for him to hide his disgust with the Knicks on a nightly basis. If he got a little self-righteous here, I'll give him a pass. I met Al Trautwig once in his heyday with MSG and the Knicks. I asked him what he thought of the Knicks (during some tough times)...and he looked at me sternly and said "Don't even get me started." I'm sure it's tough for these guys to hide their own thoughts on television when they're huge sports fans themselves. Those that can do it, are usually the better broadcasters in the league. If for that reason only, Breen is one of the best...with his commentary on this brawl withstanding.
