Let's stop all of these comparisons. It is not doing anyone any good and those who dare to make the leap (yes I said leap) to put Kobe at Jordan's level is nothing short of asinine.
I'm not trying to make the case that Kobe isn't a great player. He is a great and very dominent player in the NBA. He is not however Jordan.
Check out some of the career stats for both Kobe and Jordan...

Kobe Seeing Demons From The Past
Boston Celtics fans have dipped into the New Orleans Hornets bag of distraction tricks by creating cutouts of Vanessa Curry, the former Los Angeles Lakers cheerleader Bryant was allegedly foolin around with.
The Vanessa Curry mask
For those of you who don't know Vanessa Curry, she is an ex-Laker girl that accordingly to one of my favorite websites thedirty.com had/is having an affair with Kobe Bryant. If you actually want to read the whole story, Deadspin has the time line of the whole ordeal. Now being a biased Boston sports fan, I loved hearing the idea that Don Chavez had about making cutouts of Vanessa...
Small forward still a sore spot for the Lakers
Almost a month ago, I posted my thoughts on the Lakers' small forward situation. Last night, the problem reared its ugly head again.
Vladimir Radmanovic was 2-5 on the night, scoring five points and committing five fouls. He couldn't keep up with Paul Pierce, especially at the beginning of the third quarter, when he allowed Pierce to score eight straight points (including...
Chris Bosh On The Tonight Show With Jay Leno
Chris Bosh is hilarious - he does some interviews before Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Chris Bosh is funnier than Jay Leno
I guess the people at NBC saw Chris Bosh's youtube videos. So they decided to let him be the guest correspondent for the Tonight Show at the NBA Finals. It aired last night, so here it is. Some of my highlights include Kobe Bryant slapping Bosh and Sasha Vujacic talking about hanging out with Paris Hilton.
Chris Bosh Needs To Be On TV Full Time
Amazing, amazing move by NBC to counter ABC's Basketball coverage by getting Blog and You Tube sensation Chris Bosh for it's NBA spots. Here's the first during the Celts and Lakers practice and it's close to the funniest thing I've ever seen....I can't even process all of that. The Machine with Paris Hilton, Kobe smacking the hell out of Bosh, and Big Baby...
Finals: Between Game Thoughts
So much is being made of Pierce's return after the injury. Phil Jackson's classless remarks reminded me why I really don't like the guy. He had this to say:
Paul got carried off and was back on his feet in a minute," Jackson said. "I don't know if the angels visited him in that time-out period or what, but he didn't even limp when he came back...
1st and Last ATTEMPT to Analyze NBA Finals
As the Finals start tonight, we have all gone through, listened on TV or sports talk radio or had that water cooler conversation at the office. We have also had more than our share of Larry Bird and Magic Johnson. (why do I get the funny feeling this is ONLY the beginning?? What year is this again?)
Well since everybody else put their two cents in, I figured I would take a stab...
Youtube Mashup: Dark Knight And The NBA Finals
I was skeptical at first when I read that someone was trying to mix Kobe and Garnett clips with the Dark Knight preview but this is pretty damn good. Check it....Kevin Garnett is really freaking me out in that vid, and I take issue with Kobe being Batman, but still very good. Also, does anyone else get really creeped knowing that this was one of Heath Ledger's last movie role...
Have $1,017 laying around?
Each year adults nationwide save up their sick days for a few certain events. Baseball's opening day, the release of the new Madden video game, Flag Day. Well, I hope you people in New England have one sick day stashed away, because you may just want to call into work tomorrow.
Adidas is releasing the Commander KG sneakers to just a few lucky, insanely rich people tomorrow...
Finals: Game 2 Thoughts
Game 2 is going to be very pivotal. The Celtics don't want to to go LA 1-1 with 3 games in a row looming there. I really do hate this 2-3-2 format. It puts the team that fights for home court all season at a disadvantage. But since that is what we have, it makes game 2 a must win for the Celtics. We know that the Lakers will come out strong. They will look to take control right...
Boston Celtics: One Down
They say offense wins games but defense, defense wins championships. Tom Thibedeau defense.
What if Kobe had been traded to the Bulls...
If Kobe Bryant had been traded to the Bulls…
• Jack Nicholson would have taken a sand wedge to the windshield of Kupchak's car.
• Carson Daly would have beaten out Jimmy Fallon as the replacement for Conan O'Brien.
• O.J. Mayo would not have accepted tickets to a Nuggets/Lakers game from Carmelo Anthony, since the Lakers would have sucked and Mayo don't do sucked.
Lakers-Celtics: Pierce the Hero as Boston Takes Game One
Many Celtic fans found themselves jumping off a bridge as soon as Paul Pierce went down to the floor, clutching his knee.
There was a collective gasp from the entire stadium, which turned into dead silence as he was carted off the court in a wheelchair.
It must have come as a shock to Boston fans since their team was playing well up to that point.

Celtics-Lakers Game 1 recap
One down, three more wins to go. The Celtics came out knowing they had the pressure on them to win Game 1, and they did so, taking down the Lakers 98-88. This game wasn't without it's drama, however. With 6:52 remaining in the third quarter, Kendrick Perkins came down awkwardly on Paul Pierce, sending Pierce to the floor. Pierce was down for several moments, clutching at...

Judging from the callowness and the non-objective insight and the fact that a player of Bryants magnetude playing with thee most well conditioned athletes in NBA history and dominating the way he has for the past 6 years.
To say that it would be a "leap" is absolutely absurd. Especially when there is absolutely nothing in a game that Jordan has done that Bryant hasnt. ON THE COURT, not in a magazine or the ESPYS, Bryant could do ANYTHING JORDAN COULD. And besides the fact that Bryant recently took his team to the Finals is something Jordan never did without his other HOF player Scottie Pippen, or in Bryants case Shaq.
Scoring wise. Bryant has done things Jordan could only dream of. Against the best Defensive Rated defensive teams and players since the 1970's.
In other words, Bryant did it against better defense. And DRtg or Defensive Rating dont lie. Not 37.1 a game but 35.4 against better defense. Just imagine if Bryant had reckless abandonment the way Jordan played before Jackson, not giving a crap except to score points, screw winning. Screw team and it showed in his 37.1 a game season when it was yet his 3rd LOSING season in a row and once again swept in the 1st Round. When Bryant had his year, it was Phil Jackson who told him to score. They had injuries and needed to win within the confines of the TEAM and they did. 45 and 37 in the Western Conference and a rebound away from the Semis.
Accolade wise- well since Bryant barely turned thirty it would be plain stupid to say Bryant couldnt win as many titles or All NBA Teams or All Defense Teams especially when Bryant is only a few years away from doing it at 30 years old. The Media voter will never get Bryant as many MVPs because that would mean they would have to like the guy so that would probably out of the question as for everything else. Bryant will surpass within the next few years.
Career stat wise. Kobe wasnt a starter until half way through his 3rd season, so the 1st 2 and a half years of stats would cause his numbers to not be as profound. As would the simple fact that Kobe didnt come into the league and his team as the ONLY option. Plus the simple fact that Jordan never had to play with a player as dominant as Shaq for 8 years and yes, Jordan would have had to defer to Shaq. The offense would have went through Shaq. So "stat wise" it would be plain stupid again to compare.
But Jordan did have 5 losing seasons with only ONE playoff win. Thats something that Bryant has never led a team to do. Bryant has only had ONE losing season in his career and has only missed the playoffs ONCE. Even without his fellow Hall of Famer.
To compare accolades is imbecelic since Bryant still has a good 7 years left. But I'm sure Bryant wouldnt mind the compliment especially when his prime is barely starting.
And yes you are right, Kobe is not MJ. Doesnt want to be MJ. He wants to be Kobe Bryant. Kobe always had a jump shot, Jordan had to develop one. MJ could use his hands to guard people, Kobe cant but is yet 3 1st Teams away from tying MJs 9 1st Teams. 3 Championships from tying MJs 6 and it could have been 2 if the Lakers would have been healthy all season. I'm sure it will be cut to 2 after this next season.
But if you still fear Bryant (because why would this blog exist if KB was a non-issue)
Just imagine what you will have to write 10 years from now when Bryant is done and has surpassed everything Jordan has done and might even take Kareems All Time record.
Write now you'll just have to keep comparing a Whole career to Half a career.
I guess using this logic you can say a Whole Jordan is equal to Half a Bryant.
