LeBron Blows It

The Sports Muffin gives its take on LeBron's performance in Game 1 against the Boston Celtics:

I argued a few days ago that Lebron James should have been MVP instead of Kobe Bryant. During game 1 of the second round against the Celtics Lebron did everything in his power to make me look like an idiot. He was only one rebound and one assist away from the triple double, but had he completed that feat it would have been the worst triple double in NBA history. James shot only 2-18 from the field and blew a lay-up at the end of the game that would have tied the score and possibly sent the game to OT. The Celtics don't look anything like a #1 seed and should've lost the game. If only my MVP pick had played a mediocre game instead of a disgusting one the Cavs would have stole home court. Against the Celtics that would have been HUGE!! Come on Lebron, don't give the MVP voters any reason to think they made the right choice.

Personally, I agree with the league's decision to give Kobe the MVP. But Hairy Guate, another blogger on The Sports Muffin, thinks the award should have gone to LeBron (or at least anyone other than Kobe).

Just so you know, the media votes on the award, not the league.

Yeah, sorry, I misspoke, or mistyped, or whatever.

No worries. Just FYI.

LeBron definitely had a bad game at the worst time. If he would have had any kind of a game last night, the Cavs would have won and probably made a very interesting series out of it.

maybe so but you could also say that if Ray Allen actually scored a single point the Cavs would of had no chance! or if Paul Peirce scored more than 4 points the celts would have dominated! i don't think any of those three will have games that bad going forward! we'll see though

That's true, but the star player has to put up numbers for the team to win and the Cavs really only have one STAR player in LeBron. How he goes, the Cavs usually go.

he is definitely the make or break player for them! i 100% agree and i am scared that he might be unstoppable from game 2 on! he is a special player who can pretty much do whatever he wants!

True....he can explode, especially after having a bad game. Boston is just tough to beat at home. Cavs will have to steal a game there to have a chance.

If they made a mistake it was not because it should have been Lebron. It should have been Chris Paul the kid is a beast and is dominating the playoffs like he did the regular season. That being said I'm fine with Kobe winning it.

i think paul should have gotten it. kobe outright undermined his team at the beginning of the season until he got what he wanted. some people look at that as admirable, but it really wasn't indicative of playing your best for the good of the team. he got it for not giving up on his team this year, and while he is an excellent player, i think his shenanigans at the beginning of the year should have taken him out. you don't expect your MVP to outright go against the team's management. paul is an excellent player who's really given the hornets a lot to cheer about. kobe had his mvp status brought in on a trade.

how terrible was game 1 of cavs-celtics? i fell asleep! i'm not sure anyone was really trying to win that game.

That looked like my dad's city league vs. the elks lodge.

What's not entertaining about that?

it was entertaining!!! sure there was a lot of easy shots missed, but thats bcuz the defense on both sides was relentless!!! i was on the edge of my seat from the tip off!!!

I don't see how lebron could've been the mvp. evertime he plays a big game he disappears n hope the other role players can win the game for him. that game last night was disgusting he looked like he didn't know what to do out there. there is no way this guy should even be in the mvp mention after the way he played last night.

uh, i think you're blowing one game out of proportion. he basically carried his team on his back last year to the finals, and played great in huge games. he played exceptionally well against the wizards. i'm not going to defend the guy for his cruddy play last night, but i don't think you can say he disappears at all in big games. let the series play out.

tim duncan has been horrible in the hornet series so far. does he disappear in big games? no, he just has the occasional bad game.

The MVP hasn't gone to a player on a team with fewer than 50 wins since the '81-82 season when Moses Malone won it on a Rockets team that went 46-36. The voters simply don't give it to a player who is not on an elite team. That's why LeBron wasn't really in the running this season and that's why Kobe didn't win it the past few seasons. When looking at legit MVP candidates, you have to look at teams with at least 50 wins.

I think alot of people are putting to much pressure on this kid.And to much pressure in anything will bust!!!,Just ride this 1 out its only 1 game ,dont expect him to fly or nothin he's only human.

OMG, I ALMSOT 4 GOT LEBRON WAS HUMAN, U KNOW SINCE HE HAS BEEN CARRYING AN ENTIRE ORGANIZATION ON HIS BACK SINCE HE WAS 18. GIVE HIM A BREAK LET'S TALK ABOUT TIM DUNCAN AND THE SPURS THEY BEAT TEAM LEBRON LAST YR TO WIN THE TITILE, THEY DON'T EVEN LOOK LIKE THEY BELONG IN THE PLAYOFFS.

true and true. He carried the team on his back last year.
And the Spurs have taken to steaming dumps in a row. What is up with that? Is CP3 THAT good?!

Giselle definitely reminds us. Some chics belong in tummy shirts and some don't.

How many rings does the guy have? Donte Culpepper and Steve McNair went through their entire careers without winning anything and people have the stupidity to rank these players as some of the best because of their over inflated numbers. "What's next?" "McNabb's a hall of fame quarterback?" Win a SUPER BOWL! Players today get way too much respect for their regular season numbers. It's all about the playoffs and the rings. Wake up Tom Brady! have nothing against Whitina girls but we come before Giselle.

These articles piss me off. Does LeBron have to make every shot for you pampered fans? Always black and white. He still had 9 rebounds and 9 assists, and his teammates weren't much better last night. The coaching was horrid too (put LeBron at the top of the key, and let him go one on five).

Now, hold on a second! He could have had a quadruple-double! 12 points, ten boards, ten assists...and ten turnovers. :-D I'll tell you, if there had been a European-style point value system in place, it would not have been pretty. Of course, we would not know, since the NBA (for some reason) doesn't track fouls drawn and shots blocked (not blocked shots).

No counting also Pierce and allen shot 2-18!! So lebron matched 2 other all stars numbers... Lebron is a beast he will bounce back.

Lebron choked in game five of the Wizard's series and at the end of the Celtics game. He's a great player but I don't care what he does in the regular season. He should have hit that shot the other night with ease. He's their star and he has to produce.

FYI, Jason 2, check out Rule #2. Rude.

I guess that could be why he came back in the next game and had a triple-double to do the Wizards in.

man, i hope that doesn't happen tonight. i know he's more than capable of it, but damn, that would suck.
