The Story:
Tonight’s contest promises to be a great opening into what should be a highly contested Southeast Division. Containing four teams with legitimate shots at winning the division as a whole, it will likely be the most hotly contested division in the NBA this year.
In the heat of that battle are the Hawks and the Wizards. Atlanta finished second in the division last year but the Wizards finished in the same spot the four preceding years. While Washington was down last year, they come to the table this year...

Welcome Back, Gil
by Marcel Mutoni / @marcel_mutoni
All told, there weren’t too many surprises last night: The Lakers beat their next-door neighbors with relative ease, Shaq and the LeBronnaires struggled to find their groove against Boston’s cagey vets, and Houston was awful as expected.
In Washington, though, the story was slightly different. Gilbert Arenas loudly announced his return...
Guest Post: Staring Down a Champion
Beneath all the humor, the blog and the video games; beneath the countless nicknames, the jokes and quotes; lay a slumbering assassin, an assassin who seems to have finally awoken to his alarm blaring after two seasons devoid of basketball.
Everyone is piling on Gilbert Arenas for his newfound silence with the press, and, to an extent, rightly so. He is a professional basketball...
Tom Knott: Powerful opening statement for Wizards
That was Gilbert Arenas slicing through the defense of the Mavericks, hitting jumpers, finding teammates, picking his spots. That was the Wizards exercising their newfound familiarity with the defensive end of the floor. No one anticipated Wizards 102, Mavericks 91 in the season opener. No one anticipated the Wizards dispatching a highly competent team on the road, a team that wins...
Wizards 102, Mavericks 91
After a game like that, it's really hard to pinpoint who was most responsible in leading the Wizards to victory in the first game of the Flip Saunders era. It's easy to credit at Gilbert Arenas, who had 29 points and 9 assists in his first season opener in two years. Or Andray Blatche, who had 20 points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. But it would be difficult to ignore...
