PLAYERS: Michael Jordan

Friday night LeBron James moved a chapter closer to basketball immortality with a game-winning three-pointer that rocked Cleveland, shocked Orlando and evened the series at 1-1. With one second remaining on the NBA Game 2 Eastern Conference Finals timepiece, James waged hand-to-hand combat versus the Turkish Michael Jordan, Hedo Turkoglu, and managed to briefly get free for a three-pointer at the top of the circle. With Turkoglu's outstretched hands in his face, James received Mo Williams pass and launched his perfect parabola to stake a claim to be the rightful heir to Michael Jordan.

ESPN PODCAST: THE BEST NON-MARIO GOALS AND A FULL-BLOWN CONTROVERSY

We've all seen our share of incredible Mario Lemieux goals. Heck, there's been entire DVDs devoted to them. But what are the most memorable goals in Penguin history NOT scored by #66?Dave Dameshek and I tried to begin the task in this week's podcast, but we agreed that we're just scratching the surface with our admittedly brief list. This is obviously going to be...

LOTD: Video of LeBron James Legitimizing Jordan Comparisons With Game-Winning 3 to Beat Magic in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals

Though sportwriters and bloggers around the country will try, there are few words worthy of encapsulating the greatness and meaning of the game-winning 3-pointer made by LeBron James last night to beat the Orlando Magic in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Watch the video, courtesy of Black Sports Online, and see why - for the first time - this writer truly looked at LeBron...

10 Evenly Matched NBA One on One Games From Different Eras That I’d Love to Watch

It’s as good a topic as any in the NBA.  And with the finals around the corner the critics always like to use comparisons.  “The Next Michael Jordan,” or “The modern day Magic Johnson.”  It’s always fun to come up with scenarios and match ups that would be entertaining in the NBA. Whether it’s a team [...]

NBAs NEXT ERA WILL BE THE BEST EVER

AARWICH NEWS!!! - 5/21/09 I grew up in the 80's watching the the greats battle it out on the hardwood. It was a time of true parity and drama. As I became more and more enamored by the perennial mach-ups, I remember thinking, wow, I can't wait to witness the future talent that will inevitably surpass the now. Of course at the time, it would have sounded more like...

Lebron James = Michael Jordan circa 1989

One of the first sports books I ever read was "The Jordan Rules" by Stan Smith. One of the main features of the book was a philosophy by Detroit Pistons head coach Chuck Daly (RIP) on the best way to defend Michael Jordan. The interesting thing was Daly knew you couldn't totally stop Jordan, but the plan was to force him to play 1 on 5 and to beat his brains in for...

Kobe Bryant = Michael Jordan Circa 1998

Yesterday we compared Lebron James plight to a very young Michael Jordan. Today we are going to compare the plight of Kobe Bryant to an older Michael Jordan. When they no longer have the ability to physically dominate they get by simply on their athletic IQ...

Tisdale leaves a lasting legacy

Tisdale leaves a lasting legacy In amongst all the NBA play-off heroics of LeBron James and Kobe Bryant’s head-to-head clashes with Carmelo Anthony, the NBA lost one of its true characters last week with the sad passing of Wayman Tisdale from cancer at the age of only 44. Tisdale was one of few people who can honestly claim to have reached the top of two professions...

There is No Such Thing as 'Clutch Free Throws'

I get into a little debate today at work. I told this guy that LeBron James came up lame during last night's game. King James turned the ball over 7 times during the fourth quarter and overtime including some very costly mistakes in the extra period. He countered with "how could you say that after he hit those huge free throws with 0.5 seconds remaining?" Are you serious...
