Found November 01, 2008 on Sports Muffin:
After a listless effort in their opener, the Portland Trailblazers won a nailbiter at home against a tough San Antonio Spurs team on Friday night. The Blazers are loaded with rookie of the year candidates as many picked Greg Oden to win the award heading into the season. Rookie Spaniard Rudy Fernandez has been another trendy pick after his solid performance against Team USA in the Olympic gold medal matchup. A few even thought that maybe Jerryd Bayless could potentially surprise some people this season as he was the summer league MVP. After watching this evenings game against the Spurs, however, I think I'm going to pick the Frenchman Nicolas Batum as my ROY favorite. Read rest of the article at the Muffin!

  • I was at the game tonight, and damn that kid can ball. Was pretty sketchy about KP picking him instead of kopenen, but like I always say, in KP we trust. Man he can scout them.
  • That was a thriller at the end!
Gotta love that the arena was jam packed. Did you catch the unfortunate Warriors game? The Toronto arena was EMPTY!
    Sad.
Win lose or draw - you gotta show up for your team!
  • Man, I really hope you just mean rookie of the year on the Blazers.
  • pretty much, i get excited though
  • True to your point though, we had the best margin of scoring in the Phoenix game with Batum at SF
  • yea postin 100 on the spurs is a pretty good night. almost looked like travis was trying to keep up with nic and kinda forcing things. talk about LENGTH!
  • Yeah agreed. From what I have seen out of Batum is that his bball IQ is already much higher then Travis, I like Travis a lot, but I dont know. He has really taken some bad shots, still early in the season, so no real predictions for me.

And the ROY award is messed up, look at the Al Horford his rookie season was crazy good, but Durant still picked it up. Mainly just on a point per basis scale.

I think if all our rookies had minutes they would all be in talks. Bayless, Rudy, Batum, Oden.

You never know, Oden or Rudy could really get into a flow later in the season.

But my money is on Rose.
  • i really want trout to prove me wrong, but i think batum might be starting in a week or two.
good call on rose, but if he's going to get ROY he really needs to help the players around him.
rudy brings a lot of the intangibles to the table and those don't really matter in ROY awards, so he's got the odds against him. those offensive rebounds last night by him were huge.
I personally think Beasley is still the guy to beat.
  • But really, I think KP really sold his soul to the devil. How does he pick dudes up like this. I looked at Batum and was like WTF, are we retarted for picking him up?

But KP pulls it out again. I want KP to do my fantasy league for me.
  • haha, good call. If this were baseball I wonder how much the Yanks would throw his way?

Today was the day that all the rookies in the NBA came together and took pictures and did interviews for the upcoming season. They said that we were going to be in New York City but we ended up in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. We are like 30 minutes from downtown Manhattan. We all came in a day early, well those of us that could have. When i got there, i saw mostly all the people...

Do you know Greg Oden?

If you are a true fan of the next great BIG MAN in the NBA, then my Greg Oden test should be pretty an easy quiz.

He is now gaining notoriety as the agent for 3 former OSU player: Dequan Cook, Greg Oden and son Mike Conley Jr. Long before this gig, he was busy jumping from the foul line, dunking the basketball with 2 hands.

Scientists use carbon dating to determine Oden's age

PORTLAND, OR — Scientists at the University of Oregon made a startling discovery this week when they used state-of-the-art techniques to estimate the age of Blazers center Greg Oden. “We have been able to determine that Oden is about 21 or 22,” said Dr. Denny Gupta of the University’s Medical Center. “21 or 22 thousand, that [...]

The Art of Traveling in Basketball

I had a conversation with another coach the other day about offensive moves and then somehow the topic transition into a debate over traveling. Then the discussion got philosophical when we started debating over what the rules say and what the officials will actually call, between high school and professional, etc...Anyways, that got me thinking and I found this clip from ESPN just...

Blazers pre-Summer League workouts

Summer League kicks off tonight for the Blazers vs Boston. Unfortunately no Bassy Telfair to be seen, but I don't think that is anyone's main concern. The big man Greg Oden will be out there, stuffy nose and all, and all eyes will be in his direction. The chemistry between LaMarcus Aldridge and Oden,...

Mr.Oden = Mr.T

Greg Oden is sporting his new bad ass look. He looks like BA Barackas. He looks tough as hell. Keep that look man, just add the three lines above the ear.  Grow it out and it will be crazy. You just need some crazy chains, and maybe you could roll around with some crazy ass [...]

College Basketball 2K8...Whose Face Is This?

From the looks of things, it looks like Greg Oden, right? But look closely at the face. Look at the eyes, the facial expression. Am I the only one that notices something a slight bit odd?

Oden Tweaks Ankle No Time Table Set For Return

The air inside the gym where the Portland Trail Blazers are holding training camp, may have briefly vanished Monday. The "Portland Tribune" reported that the Trail Blazers center Greg Oden fell to the floor in pain, during the first of two a day practices.

Injury Trouble Already - Thank you, Greg Oden

First things first: Glad to see Patrick has a Gravatar now! Next up… in the Carnival of the NBA Battle of the Bloggers League, we’ve only got 2 bench spots and I currently have Greg Oden, Manu Ginobli, and Francisco Garcia all injured. So, basically I’m a man down to whatever team I’m playing. The rest [...]

Mo' Money, Mo' Problems

There's been a lot of hoo-hah in the last year or so over the rookie salary structure, and I'm not really sure why. After seeing the number one overall pick in last seasons NFL Draft hold out because of contract negotiations, is this really something anyone wants to see in an NBA already cursed with a prima donna image? The discussion is going on in context to the NBA...
