The Sports Point:
Photo courtesy of the APWe aren't even through a full month of college basketball, so you might think it's a little premature to start separating contenders from pretenders. However, the early season does provide us with some high-profile non-conference games in these tip off tournaments. While we haven't been able to watch the entire top 25 play, there have been three teams that we feel could be around in late March. Keep in mind that it's not necessary to bring up the Tarheels, who are playing at a higher level than anyone else.
Notre Dame - This seems to be an obvious selection after beating 7th ranked Texas, but there we're not sure how many people actually think that the Irish are legit. They've been such an up and down team the last five years, but this team has a great starting five and the chemistry seems to be there early on. The Irish rely on the three but have enough shooters to avoid an off night, led by the confident Tory Jackson. Hopefully, North Carolina won't make us regret our opinion tonight.
Oklahoma - Blake Griffin has been a beast through four games, averaging 26 ppg and just under 20 rpg. He's been unstoppable on both ends of the floor, while his brother, Taylor, has quietly been contributing as well. The Sooners play solid defense and wouldn't be a surprise to win the Big 12 this season.
Syracuse - The Orange took home the CBE Classic Championship Tuesday defeating 18th-ranked Florida and defending-champion Kansas on back-to-back nights. They've done so behind the superb play of sophomore Jonny Flynn, who had 25 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals in the win over the Jayhawks. This squad has looked unselfish thus far, and might just be a better team without Donte Green, who was a first round NBA selection after just one season in college.

Jackson and McAlarney lead ND past IU, 88-50
Indiana got its first taste of a nationally ranked opponent Monday night in the opening round of the Maui Invitational. The result? An 88-50 throttling at the hands of No. 9 Notre Dame.
The Fighting Irish (3-0) shot 51 percent, hit ten 3-pointers, out-rebounded IU 40-23 and forced 20 turnovers.
Tory Jackson paced the winners with 21 [...]
Packing For Vegas: College Basketball Picks Nov. 28
I was 2-0 on Wednesday thanks to Blake Griffin and Oklahoma and Oregon State's continued struggles. The Sooners used a late run to beat UAB by 10, and Oregon State fell apart late in the second half, eventually losing to Montana State in overtime...Read the full article on Bleacher Report...
SU vs Kansas: The Recap
If there is one negative that I can think of the game between Syracuse (5-0) and Kansas (4-1), where the Orange outplayed, outsmarted and outFlynned the Jayhawks on their way to an 89 to 81 OT victory, is that the speedy point guard is sure shoring up his resume for next year's draft. With a win ...
Bring on the Sooners!
I was covering a high school game here in Indy last night, but I was able to avoid a score and watch the tape once I got home. The Boilers did well in their first serious test of the season. As always, there are positives and negatives, but we looked every bit like a ranked team in this contest. Sure we essentially bled the clock dry with a big lead in the final seven minutes, but...
SU vs Florida: The Last Thoughs
With less than half hour before the tip off between Syracuse and 18th ranked Florida it is time to do my favorite post for any game, bet it football or basketball, the "Last Thoughts". (I apologize for not having the preview for this game, but my father in law is about to have some more surgery ...
SU vs Kansas: The Final Thoughts
After a great game yesterday, tonight the Orange will face the team they have a fine recollection on the way to their only national championship, Kansas. With about ninety minutes to go from the game, I am going to give you my "Last Thoughts". As you know this post is all about what my gut ...
5-0!!
Syracuse has done itself a big favor and virtually guaranteed itself a berth in the NCAA tournament this year, barring a complete collapse by the team. It’s only November, but the wins over top 20 teams Kansas and Florida can not be underestimated in their importance for the total value of the season. These are two neutral court wins (though Kansas was hardly on a neutral court...
