"What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension. There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I'd like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade." As a Grizzlies fan, I was hoping management would move Gasol and build for the future around a strong, young nucleus (Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry). But I didn't think for a minute t...

What is this fantasy basketball? If an organization makes a bad move that is there fault. Thats why GMs get paid so much, not to screw up.

I think it has more to do what went on behind the scenes. Memphis could have received more than what they got for from the Lakers. Several other teams offered more but for whatever reason they made the deal with the Lakers. Some believe Jerry West might have had a hand in the trade. Anyway, makes for some good stories.

Before this trade, I couldn't see any team wanting Kwame, even with draft picks... I don't know what the rationale was, but I'll bet the Lakers organization let out a sigh of relief after that deal was done!
  • RedDawn
They didn't want Kwame Brown; they wanted his expiring contract. The move frees up $17M this off-season for potential free-agent signings. That said, it's still a "bag of question marks" because you're not sure if anyone's going to want to play in Memphis, but with that young nucleus and more youth on the way, why not?

i'm sorry, but everyone realizes that the grizzlies won't be in memphis much longer, right? i mean, you just can't make money off of basketball there.

That's not really relevant to the salary cap, though; the salary cap doesn't care what city you're in.

Let'sface it, the EMBLEM helpedhis old team out. Once a Laker alway's a Laker.

Memphis has obviously wrote this season off. Just like Miami, they want capspace.

scarface is only complaining because he wanted him.
  • There's more to this trade than meets the eye. I have to concur with redDawn. otherwise it's like a huck finn or tom sawyer deal.

Pop is just mad that the Spurs' road to the Finals just got that much harder.
  • Someone sounds nervous in the West....
  • JUst wait until he sees the impact Shaq has. Then he will really be PO'ed
  • connor
He is just jealous cause the Lakers got the better part of the deal.
  • dozertx
he wasnt crying foul when his team got ahead of the celts in the draft and got one Tim Duncan...can't have it both ways.
  • Pop needs to shut up and mind his business. Comittee to over see trades? Are you kidding me? Basketball is a business and when the numbers work it should make no difference. Why is Pop so concerned about Memphis' ability to compete? He is a Spur right? Shut up Pop, the Lakers are coming back and hang his head Tim Duncan when things get rough will have extra time to hang out in St Croix this year. Watch him hang his head when things get rough!
