There's more to this trade than meets the eye. I have to concur with redDawn. otherwise it's like a huck finn or tom sawyer deal.
"What they did in Memphis is beyond comprehension. There should be a trade committee that can scratch all trades that make no sense. I just wish I had been on a trade committee that oversees NBA trades. I'd like to elect myself to that committee. I would have voted no to the L.A. trade."
As a Grizzlies fan, I was hoping management would move Gasol and build for the future around a strong, young nucleus (Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, Kyle Lowry). But I didn't think for a minute that Kwame Brown would be the answer. Nor did I think more youth (two future first-round draft picks) would be the right move. They need a formidable big man, but instead they got a bag full of question marks.

Well said by both Pop and Rosewater

What is this fantasy basketball? If an organization makes a bad move that is there fault. Thats why GMs get paid so much, not to screw up.

I think it has more to do what went on behind the scenes. Memphis could have received more than what they got for from the Lakers. Several other teams offered more but for whatever reason they made the deal with the Lakers. Some believe Jerry West might have had a hand in the trade. Anyway, makes for some good stories.

Before this trade, I couldn't see any team wanting Kwame, even with draft picks... I don't know what the rationale was, but I'll bet the Lakers organization let out a sigh of relief after that deal was done!

They didn't want Kwame Brown; they wanted his expiring contract. The move frees up $17M this off-season for potential free-agent signings. That said, it's still a "bag of question marks" because you're not sure if anyone's going to want to play in Memphis, but with that young nucleus and more youth on the way, why not?

i'm sorry, but everyone realizes that the grizzlies won't be in memphis much longer, right? i mean, you just can't make money off of basketball there.
-
That's not really relevant to the salary cap, though; the salary cap doesn't care what city you're in.
-
Let'sface it, the EMBLEM helpedhis old team out. Once a Laker alway's a Laker.

Memphis has obviously wrote this season off. Just like Miami, they want capspace.

scarface is only complaining because he wanted him.

-
JUst wait until he sees the impact Shaq has. Then he will really be PO'ed

Lets hope!
-
He is just jealous cause the Lakers got the better part of the deal.
-
he wasnt crying foul when his team got ahead of the celts in the draft and got one Tim Duncan...can't have it both ways.

Pop needs to shut up and mind his business. Comittee to over see trades? Are you kidding me? Basketball is a business and when the numbers work it should make no difference. Why is Pop so concerned about Memphis' ability to compete? He is a Spur right? Shut up Pop, the Lakers are coming back and hang his head Tim Duncan when things get rough will have extra time to hang out in St Croix this year. Watch him hang his head when things get rough!

Griz Make a Deal?
Well, according to several reports, it looks like the Grizzlies are backing away from a major trade today, though that still might change before this afternoon's trade deadline. Gasol to the Lakers is working
Last night the Los Angeles Lakers showed that the trade they made to bring Pau Gasol to L.A. just might have been a brilliant move. In the Lakers 117-113 win over the Orlando Magic, Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant combined for 66 points, but more importantly, in only their third game together, they looked like they had been playing together for years.
