Breaking down the five-player trade between the Miami Heat and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
10 Comments:
  • I like that move the Heat made. This looks like their healthy stating line-up soon. I think the Heat didn't need Antoine anymore. Weren't they trying to trade him anyway? They were trying to get Artest.
    PG Jason Williams
    SG Dwayne Wade
    SF Ricky Davis
    PF Udonis Haslem
    C Shaquille O'Neal
  • yeah, that starting lineup looks pretty solid...and they have Smush Parker/Dorell Wright coming off the bench.
  • We like the trade for the Timberwolves. Clearly, before the deal, they were going to be bad. No, after the deal, they're still bad, but in a much better position to develop.

The move finally helps Rashad McCants get on the court. He's the major benefactor of the deal. Foye, McCants, and Brewer will start in the back court, and Green and Gomes will be able to get much needed playing time as first reserves. Big Al benefits too.

AMark Blount, who was completely worthless on this roster, is gone. Jefferson will be surrounded by the best mix of veteran big men: a top defender (Ratliff), a jump shooter (Doleac), a high post dude (Howard), and uh, 'Toine. He's in a great situation.

Business wise, they get two expiring contracts (Doleac and Simien), they'll buy out Walker's contract after the season, and they'll actually receive a 1st round draft pick!

The Wolves get younger, cheaper, and are now in great position moving forward. Next year, they'll have huge cap space, enough to trade for anybody or buy anyone they want.

I don't know how this affects the Heat, who cares.
  • "I don't know how this affects the Heat, who cares."

    LOL.

PS: Can you explain how Minny gets a first-round draft pick out of this trade?
  • the heat gave up their 2008 first round pick in the deal
  • Cool, thanks!

Sounds like a good deal for the Tims.
  • it was a good deal for the Heat. Walker is all washed up, Davis may have 1 or 2 more good years.
  • that was a pretty good move, ricky davis is a good player.
  • Ricky Davis is a great player but its all about RICKY on and off the court. Miami got the better end by far with Ricky alone but only if he doesn't bring and that "me first" attitude.
  • "but its all about RICKY", i forgot about all that. I dont think Shaq would put up with that. He dealt with that once upon a time in LA.

Miami Heat Season Preview

The Miami Heat won the NBA Finals only two years ago. If you were not alive at the time and somehow developed enough brains to understand the NBA at the age of two, you would barely believe that this team made the playoffs. Anyway, here are your Key Losses that trump the Additions followed by some commentary. Miami Heat Last Years Record: 44-38 Key Losses: James Posey, Jason...

'Toine Back To Beantown?

Minnesota, who just aquired Antoine Walker in a trade with the Heat, have until Monday to trim their roster from 18 to 15... IF they release Walker, could there be another go round with Boston?

Wolves Trade Davis and Blount

The Minnesota Timberwolves took a big step towards building their final roster before the season starts next week, trading away the final two starters remaining on the team from last season, Mark Blount and Ricky Davis. This deal has been hinted at over the course of training camp, but Blount was really never talked about, and this deal could lead to even more moves for...

Is the Heat too old?

I looked at the expert predictions for the Miami Heat on ESPN - how depressing! They called them "team geriatric". On the plus side, Penny Hardaway is back with Shaq, so as long Shaq can avoid injury (which at 35, might be impossible) the Heat should be just fine. And yeah, I know Dwayne Wade is out for the first month for knee rehabilitation, but he's only 25, he...

Adding Dropping Starts NOW!

These first 3 add/drops were all made by the same teaminosity. The same team, I might addify, that picked up Matt Carroll before I could (after the news hit that Adam Morrison would be out for the season). Kyle Lowry (Mem - PG,SG) Add Anthony Parker (Tor - SG,SF) Drop Craig Smith (Min - SF,PF) Add Matt Carroll (Cha - SG,SF) Drop Theo Ratliff...

Leave the Soulja Boy to Sebastian

What do you get when you mix DJ Irie playing Soulja Boy with white and old people dancing in the stands during the Heat/Spurs preseason game? Pure comedy gold! Video in post.

Wolves and Heat Swapping Ex-Celtics

ESPN is reporting that a deal is close that would send Antoine Walker to Minnesota for Ricky Davis and Mark Blount. I don't know about you, but I can't wait for the report that Shaq had decked Blount for sulking in practice.

Mike Conley and Ricky Davis updates

So, Mike Conley got outplayed by a BOC Kyle Lowery last night. Not sure what it all means, but on our Mock Draft Roundup Conley is going at about 93, while on Yahoo, he's down at 126. I guess if there's a question mark, then the 126 number is more accurate. And shows what us "experts" know? And also, Ricky Davis is going to the Heat. Here's my post in the...
