With the ACL injury to Jason Smith, the Sixers will be looking for someone to fill in as a back up center and power forward since his season is pretty much over before it starts. The Sixers can offer just a minimum contract and word is that former Sixer (and Celtic) Theo Ratliff is high on their list to contact. Ratliff played in only 2 games in his year with the Celtics and he and his expiring contract were sent to Minnesota in the deal that brought KG to the Celtics. The Wolves cut him and ...

David Beckham, Rick Barry, Pele, Hershel Walker, Steve Young all left established leagues to play in new or substandard leagues for cash. This is a business and the Euro is killing the Dollar right now.
If you don't like Kobe because of Colorado well that is a different debate but in his professonal career as a basketball player, i see a guy who plays hard, trains hard, won big games, put up big stats and is a sure fire Hall of Famer... I am a die hard Laker fan and would hate to see him in some other gear but as we have seen in the Green Bay - Brett Farve saga, Professional Sports is a business and if some euro team makes some out of this world offer to Kobe who am I to say you can't consider it. Option #1 stay in LA where you are loved by many and play in the NBA the gold standard of Hoops for a large amount of money but you have to deal with media and fan scrutiny at a level few athelets have ever faced....
Or
Option #2 Play in Italy for maybe the richest contract of any Basketball player ever in a country you grew up in where you will be treated more favorably by the media and fans and you will take the game of Basketball to new hights in the World.
I hope he stays a Laker for life but I also hope folks would stop hating for a moment and just enjoy one of the greatest players ever while he is here...
Laker Matt

LeBron has something that Kobe will never have; Personality....
he may not have as much as Arenas(he is in my opinion, our generation's Penny Hardaway) but he relates to the fans...
he wants to show us what he is, just a guy with a whole hell of alot of basketball skill, who loves life...
So I "hate" Kobe, because he isn't doing what we(the fans) ask...
we want a superstar who is aware of the fact that the NBA fans are idiots; we know you guys just want to get paid, LeBronchi understands that, and he wants the fans to get there money's worth at ALL times(on and off the court)
Kobe has an "old school" mind-set, he thinks fans just want championships(so anything he does will be forgiven, as long as the general opinion is still that "Kobe wants to win more the anyone else").... no, thats not true, I wanna be entertained,..
The NBA isn't just "X's and O's".... This is proven with the fact that the general worst case senario is "Spurs vs. Pistons" in the finals, and the fact that no one can deny being in love with the Golden State Warriors(the classic example of a entertaining team that understands that they win games, but the word "play-offs" and them, just don't sound right)
LeBron wants to put on a show, and it seems like Kobe wants to show us a distraction...

I'd take Odom, Gasol, Bynum, Walton, Fisher, Sasha, and Ronnie any day over Z, Wallace, West, Wally, and Booby.... in a heartbeat...
Whats worse is that everyone knows Kobe has a better cast, and while LeBron says he'd like to see more talent on his team, he certainly didn't make videos for Youtube, wishing for his team mates to be traded(Buynm, to be exact)
Hence why Kobe is gay, and LeBron gets it...
WaltonsWisdom replied August 13, 2008
iggles422 replied August 13, 2008
don't give me that sad arguement...
Take away Gasol last season, a Kobe would have dragged his team, kicking and screaming to 45ish wins, just as his has done the past 3-4 seasons.... now put LeBron and his Cavs where Kobe is, he could irk by with they same amount of wins...
and heres why...
The WEST wins, but they are SOFTER then cookie dough...
This is a FACT... It was proven to its highest extent when the best EASTERN style team (BOSTON) had a 6 game sweep of the best WEST style team(LAKERS).... The WEST "thinks" they know how to play defense, but (other then the ROCKETS and SPURS) they can't...
and a farther example to my point of view is two of the west teams, The WARRIORS and NUGGETS... they are the best example of what the WEST philosophy of how to play basketball.... Defense in the form of offense...
WaltonsWisdom replied August 13, 2008
I've said it before -- the East had the best team in the NBA this season, without a doubt. But there are way more teams in the East that are horrible, so your season wins total would naturally be higher if you played against those teams 3-4 times a year instead of 1-2. ATLANTA made the playoffs with like 39 or 40 wins -- enough said.

I just listed them as one of only two teams in the west who can play defense and isn't soft....
The cavs essentially played another East team.... Because the Spurs have a east mindset...
Just because the east has a more evened out teams, doesn't make them better then the East...
Did you ever think, the Hawks only got 39 wins, because they had to play the East so much?
and yes, I'm aware that the West as a hole had a better record against the East as a whole...
but I'll say is, Which style has won more championships as of late (and if you count the Spurs wins in the West total, you have to at least acknowledge that they aren't like the rest of the West; just like the 76'ers aren't like the rest of the East)
iggles422 said August 13, 2008
I meant:
"just because the WEST* are more evened out then the East"

If the Lakers were in the east they would be the 3 seed.... that sums it all up...
just because the bottom is just the absolute worst in the East, doesn't discount seeds 1-4... and the Cavs...
The Timberwolves don't get the credit of there being 8 50+ win teams, and yet, you think you can argue the opposite for the East...
You just need to stop believingenuity in Kobe's hype... He isn't Jordan (and I say that not even liking Jordan that much)
Im not even a big LeBron fan, I'm a Paul Pierce fan. I just tell Kobe fans that LeBron because I live in southern cali, and I hate the Lakers...

People should not look to athletes to be thier role model. They are humans too.
I'm sure there are 10 ppl that you come into contact with throughout the day that are as big of a jerk as him but you don't care because this guy is a bus driver or something. He is just under more scrutiny because he is living "the life".
iggles422 replied August 14, 2008
Im with you... They don't have to be a role model... look at charles barkley... I love the guy, cause he's honest... he didn't want to be a role model... and he isn't... he's just a guy you wanna talk to... that simple...
Kobe seemed to want to be a "role model"
now it blew up in his face.... and not fans and the media will rub that in his face....
ha
GSWgirl replied August 14, 2008
Kobe will be under the microscope because people feel like he owes them something. I'm not saying I like the guy - I just respect what he does on the court. If he isn't hurting anyone off the court - that should be enough. He shouldn't have to do mass amounts of charity work. Of course that would be great if he did and I appreciate the ones who do - but that is not what he is getting paid for.
iggles422 said August 15, 2008
hes there to entertain you
as a Golden State Warriors fan, you should know what I mean, which is why you aren't a Spurs fan.... a team built for "winning" but not very "fun" to watch...
Sorry for not being enthused(and to an extent; not entertained) by an arrogant prick... I just don't wanna see him succeed... so when does win (which before as of before late, wasn't very often; which pleased me alot) Im not "entertained".... Im pissed and saddened that people like that are paid and encouraged to be like that...
which is why, i picked to side with LeBron, when i heard of the fan feud...
he isn't an arrogant dick

I don't really have a problem with arrogant athletes Most excellent athletes usually are and I like the swagger in them.
For those of you that hate a man you don't even know, I think it says more about you than the athlete.
