The Toronto Raptors are supposedly shopping T.J. Ford given Jose Calderon's emergence as the starting point guard in 2008. Ford is still just 25 years-old, and his 12.1 ppg and 6.1 apg suggest that he's got plenty to offer. Down in the States, the Golden State Warriors have a point guard conundrum of their own. Hmmm. All good points EXCEPT... you know the Warrior faithful do not want BD to leave the Bay. It does make some sense, though, specially if they can get a PG and a PF. And I don't care what anyone says, Harrington is a SF not a PF. He's just at PF by default. Getting a legit PF would free him up like Gasol did for Oden. Interesting, Oflarity. Very interesting.

well, not all warriors fans want baron to stay, especially with the contract he's expecting. But with that aside, the business part of the game may prevent BD from staying in the Bay. If that's the case, Ford seems to be a good fit - the issue becomes, how do you get him?

Yeah, I agree that it is a business. And I also agree about the issue of BDs contract. In fact, I'm not sure why I'm commenting because I agree on all points. I'm such a kiss-ass.

Let's take a poll.....Who wants baron to stay?
        I do!!
So far 100% of people want Baron to stay.
Do I want the Warriors to not be able to sign Monta & Beidrins to keep Baron? No. But I feel like they could all work something out.
No one else is going to pay him what he's looking for. He's more valubale to the Warriors than to any other team. Not only due to his skill - but also his chemistry with the other players & coach.
You know some people mistake his swagger for arrogance. The bay appreciates the swagger.
    • AMEN HE IS NOT LEAVING THE BAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everything hinges on Baron. If he exercises his player option (after finding out that he can't get a max or a near-max contract) then a trade for Ford probably wouldn't work. But you're right, he's a great fit, if a bit fragile. I expect the Knicks will make a run at him as well.

right - I suggest the ford trade on the assumption Baron Davis does not stick around

The other issue is, I don't think BD will opt out until he knows for sure he can't get the money elsewhere. I just don't think the Knicks can pay him because WHO are the going to unload? And where else is he going to go? Will he go to a non-contender at this point in his career?

He could go to the Clippers - assuming Elton Brand doesn't opt of his contract, the Clips are a point guard away from being playoff contenders, evidence by the one good year Sam Cassell gave them.

Go back home, hunh? Now THAT might be enticing to him.

Doubtful they could afford it - but it would be nice to have a solid back up for Baron (when he re-signs).lol.

if you don't want Baron to stay then you aren't a Warriors fan.

I think we're just discussing a little of the real along with the ideal. Of course we WANT him to stay.

Can the warriors get ford as a backup?

Not with Ford's $8 million salary

Baron is getting 17 million this year. For him to opt out he'd have to really be sure he could get a long term deal from another team because NO TEAM would pay him 17 million a year with his injury concerns.

It really upsets me that Baron is threatening to leave rather than playing his ass off this year and making teams cream themselves at the idea of signing him next year when he is a Free Agent.

BRING ON KLOVE AND TJ FORD.
  • BearsNecessity
TJ Ford is a shoot first point guard with an average passing game. His Assist:TO ratio is weak. Why would the Warriors want him? Calderon is a much better point man but Sam Mitchell refuses to start him.

Where are you getting this? Ford's AST/TO ratio was 13th amongst point guards playing more than 20 minutes per game, ahead of bigger names like Deron Williams, Steve Nash, Jason Kidd, and yes, Baron Davis. He was 21st in AST/FGA ratio (for PGs playing more than 20 minutes) and set a career low in that regard, so it was more of an aberration than his true nature. I'd definitely describe him as a pass-first PG. Calderon is definitely better, but I don't think he's available. Ford is small, struggles with his jumper at times (though he shot 47% from the field) and is injury prone, but other than that he's a very good point guard that thrives in an up tempo attack.

Did people forget that he mentioned to trade Wright....This is the guy we traded J-Rich for. You want to give him up after just one year after he showed some promising signs. You sir have lost your marbles.

It's about time someone brought that up - I was waiting for SOMEONE to jump all over me for suggesting trading Brandan Wright. I suggest Wright because I figure the most realistic trading pieces the Warriors have right now are Wright and their first round draft pick - I like the prospects of landing Kevin Love more than Wright.

Wright is too much to give up for Ford. I mentioned that in my piece about a possible Ford to GS trade. The rookie came on at the end and gave the Warriors some very productive minutes.
  • I don't know about this one...Although TJ is a good point guard should GSW take a risk on him given his back problems that he's had...he's had a couple of scares. Personally I would like to see Wright have more playing time before deciding to ship him out. When Nellie has put him in he was nothing but productive....he was just never given much oppurtunity to showcase that.
  • i dont want TJ i just want BARON in the Bay Area!!!!!
