Sixers face elimination after Pistons cruise to 3-2 series lead

The Sixers may look back to Game Four and ask what could have been. The Sixers held a 10 point halftime lead over the Pistons only to watch Detroit come back and dominate them in the second half to pull out the win. Game Five was more of the same as the Pistons controlled the play, winning 98-81, and showed why they are the championship contender and the Sixers are merely first round fodder.

The series returns to Philadelphia on Thursday. The Sixers probably blew their best chance to win this series when they faded at the end of Game Four, but they are by no means done. The Pistons have them up against the ropes, but Detroit is not the kind of team who will go in for the kill. They have a tendency to lose focus and let a team hang around, so the Sixers are not finished yet. The Sixers have to find a way to steal Game Six and force the series back to Detroit for a Game Seven where anything can happen. They just have to hope that Rasheed Wallace and the rest of the group get distracted looking past the Sixers and at their second round opponent, the Orlando Magic, who finished off the Toronto Raptors last night.

No matter what happens, this young team sparked my interest in basketball again! The Pistons are a great team and like the article said, they've had to play their best against the 6ers.

exactly... but i got to give sixers some credit for giving a fight... but you know experience just is too mcuh

Sixer fans can be proud that they got a good punch in - That's all you want to see when your team is outmatched. The Pistons have clearly recovered from the punch and will cruise to the 2nd round unless the Sixers somehow have another gear we haven't seen.

NBA Playoffs are all about finding that extra gear.

the sixers fans should be proud of their team. they did what most of us pistons fans didn't think they would do. you gotta love the fact that they came in the underdogs but played like they can win it all.

You know what imma go the extra yard and say that this will go to Game 7 I think the Next game which is tomorrow the Sixers will Win that Game giving the Pistons there all i think the Sixers are Capable of winning this Series they need to Play the full 4 Quarters consistently an not slack off i hope they win an not give up on this last game...

dont give up until the end of the buzzer tomorrow night (if they lose) if not keep the faith they can make it

I would love to agree with you, unfortunately it looks like the Pistons have woken up and risen their game above a level the Sixers are incapable of reaching.

if i may add to that, not only have the pistons woke up but sheed is alive and feeling this thing!! real pistons fans knows what that mean when sheed is feeling it.

Well thats what it seemed like the last time when they were tied up at 1-1 and they blew us (sixers) out of the Water we all thought oh snap its the end for the Sixers and what did they do they won the next game.... Yes i give it to the pistons experience and skill is on there side but hey i still think the Sixers are gonna surprise many.....

This is out of category but if the hawks pull an upset on the celtics than the Eastern Confrence is up for Grabs for anyone if sixers pull it off i would expect them to be the front runners for the Eastern Championship Lord willing...

Am i going way ahead of myself YES LOL i guess im hopeful nothing wrong with that lol

you r so right. when they lost game 1 i was shocked. then win game 2 only to loose game 3!!!! i was mad about it. but if you watched game 5, you saw a different team in detroit. u saw a team that knows now that the sxers can give it to them so they have to come hard. i really think its over for the sixers but hey, they put up a good fight. and to add to your "out of category" i live in atlanta now and boy i tell you, if they beat boston its going to be a mad town in the "A" but even if they do(anything can happen) i don't think they will come out of the east.

this just goes to show them that even though they know or think they are the better team, they can't sleep on them. at this point, they can't sleep on anyone!!!! i think detroit is a great team and my favorite team but if they don't come with it in game 6 to put the sixers away, that young team might just shock them.

its over....

Yeah I wouldn't say the Pistons "cruised" anywhere. The Sixers really gave them a good fight.

They certainly cruised in Game Five

And by now you know that Game 6 was even better!!! What a blow out!!!!
