Steve Blake, college star at Maryland but journeyman pro, had a career night against the Warriors, outplaying BD and leading the Blazers to first place!

As much as I CAN'T STAND BLAKE being a Duke alum, the guy always seemed to step up his game against better point guards in college. He used to own Jason (Jay, whatever) Williams when they went head-to-head.

Sick...who would've thought that Steve Blake would have a better career than Jay Williams...

Steve Blake never played at Duke Deuchebag. He played at Maryland.

He, The Sportsgod, meant HE is a Duke alumni. And "Deuchebag" is spelled 'douche bag'.
        • TheSportsGod
Thank you JUSTIN G! Not the such clear grammar on my part. I guess $30 grand a year for education doesn't always pay off.
      • TheSportsGod
Thanks for the history lesson. I'm color blind and sometimes get red and blue mixed up.
      • TheSportsGod
        Speaking of "Douche Bag"...nice picture.
  • paulypaul
saw he went down in the 3rd quarter. any update to his injury? he was on fire!
    • IntoTheBreach
Bruised calf, don't know his status going forward

I watched the game and Blake looked pretty great.

Blake may have had a better game statistically, but he did NOT outplay Baron Davis. Coach Nellie benched Davis due to foul trouble and he was on the court for no more than 14 minutes.

Watch the game before you write an article. And edit your title accordingly.

P.S. It's funny to see Portland fans get super happy when Blake has one decent game out of 35, haha. Sorry guys, he still averages 8pts/4.7assts/0.8stls in 30 minutes. I should list the other 33 games he was horrible in(he had another average game against the Bucks), but I'll let you guys have this ONE. Baron outplayed by Blake, pff. Hahhaa, you wish.

But props to Portand on the win! Pretty fun team to watch. It's great for Blazers fans.
    • BlazerBandit
Correction: the Blazers outplayed the Warriors. Steve Blake was a major part of that, so was the Warrior's horrendous defense. Steve Blake stepped up for his team, Baron let his team down. I'd say that is outplaying him.

The Blazers have beaten the Warriors twice this year, and doing it so relatively easy. All you have to do is attack their big men with buckets in the paint and get Baron Davis and Stephen Jackson frustrated with fouls. They take themselves out of the game. That, my friends, is being mentally outplayed.
    • ptowncboy
Yes he did outplay Davis. Before you try to talk shit you should look at the stats chump! You let us have this one huh just like the first game. Your team has no future ours does loser!!! GO BLAZERS!!!!
      • jus10gee
        Placard_complete_small
I was watching the game, CHUMP. Winning the statistical numbers does not neccessarily mean you outplayed your counter-opponent, who you guys are claiming was Baron Davis.

Learn something. So, did Blake "outplay" Brandan Wright? Stephen Jackson? Jarrett Jack? Belinelli? Brandon Roy? NO, but he did statistically have a better game than the previously listed.

And how do we have no future when we have the second or third youngest team in the league? You're an idiot, for sure. Instead of just watching the game like the casual fan that you are, decipher the NBA inside - out, then post your comment with some substance.

You are giving Portland fans a bad representation.
        • ptowncboy
Yes Blake outplayed everybody last night RETARD! He put those numbers up before the fourth!! The warriors dont stand a chance against the BLAZERS for a long time pal. Get used to it! Your team is full of hoodlums who will probably be in prison before long sucka! YA DIGG!!!!!!!
        • BigRandy
          Placard_complete_small
Because you really do have no future. You have two decent players and one likes to pack guns and act like a fool. Baron is a great player but he's not going to do it by himself. You are what we used to be. To quote Baron, "now we're the most gangster team in the league". What a joke! He was refering to getting Stephen back. You don't have a legit center and we do. And if you decipher the league so well how do you not now where your team ranks in age JACKASS
        • jus10gee
          Placard_complete_small
The only future Portland has is Brandon Roy and Lamarcus Aldridge.

Baron Davis and S.Jax have 5+ more good years left, Monta Ellis(future all-star), Kelenna Azubuike is a beast, and if you don't think Andris Biedrins is a "legit" center with the highest FG% in the league(AND he's only 21 yrs. old) then you are one delusional individual. How do the Warriors have no future??

P.S. I left Greg Oden out of the list for Portland's future purposely. Main reason being: He hasn't played a single NBA game. Thus, you have no idea of what type of "future" he beholds. He has proven nothing, except rehabbing on a timely manner.
    • mickeyd27
I'm pretty sure he still out played him. Being in foul trouble is no excuse for a bad game. Any other night, Baron would have out played Blake. Don't write stupid comments if you don't know basketball. Baron shouldn't of gotten in foul trouble, but Blake and Blazers were penetrating. In yo fAce
      • ptowncboy
If your aunt had balls she would be your uncle!!!
        • wutduhflipz
Got to say man, you're pretty immature. I'm a Blazer fan too, but I'm going to have to say Blake just had one of those on nights. I don't really like the guy, and I honestly think we should trade him when we get a better point guard. He's not a keeper.

On the Baron Davis thing, yes he was outplayed statistically but who's had a better season over all? Don't forget about what Steve Blakes stats really are for the season. None the less, go blazers.
  • jus10gee
    Placard_complete_small
Correct, the Blazers definitely did outplay the Warriors. Stating the obvious there, especially if you simply glance at the final score. But, Blake did not outplay Baron Davis. Saying that one player outplayed his adjacent opponent, that suggests that he beat him one-on-one. In which Blake did not.

And I don't know which sport you watch. But, in basketball, players do not take themselves out of the game - the coaches or officials do. AND what the hell is mentally outplayed? Did the Blazers hypnotize Baron and telepathically make him choose foul somebody?? It's usually referred to as officials call. That, my friend, was an idiotic comment you posted.

Blah blah blah everyone of the Blazers outplayed everyone on the warriors our team outplayed yours my sperm out swam yours on its way to your moms womb and your squad lost! now suck it up and take it like a man, damn
  • tarheelotti
Steve Blake always seems to play well when given the oppurtunity. Problem is, politically he can't get much PT due to teams giving contracts to bigger name players. Hopefully his run with Portland will be long, he sure deserves some consistent playing time.
  • kgoon1590
stevie blake is the bomb, always has been.

  • ptowncboy
Yeah it looked like the Blazers were playing snow whites dwarfs last night!!!

Who ever said best pg ever retard! I remember somebody posting Blake outplayed Davis retard! You and the rest of you sorry ass warrior fans can lick my ballsack! WHO IS LEADING THEIR DIVISION BATCHES!!!!!!
    • wutduhflipz
Ha, yeah we're ahead right now, but that's not going to last for long. But in the end I think we will end up with the division. If not then pretty damn close.
  • mickeyd27
Hey everybody, you should check out the article I just posted. The Top 10 Reasons why the Warriors Suck!!!
  • rcs360
Blake's cool. He's no BD but he's got a chance in the NBA. He's just incosistent, I watched him at a preseason Kings game at Sac.

Since he got traded to Denver last year I liked him, how he distributed the ball and let AI get to play SG. He had 8.3 ppg. and 6.6 apg. at Denver. He has 10 ppg. and 4 apg. during a 17-1 stretch of games, but if he steps up those stats, he can be better.

I watched the whole game. I agree that Steve Blake outplayed Baron Davis. I'm a Warriors ticket holder, live in San Francisco, and love watching Baron and the Warriors. But last night Steve Blake was the best player on the floor. Case in point: Baron had one field goal the entire game. Yeah, he had limited playing time, but he played long enough to miss five of 'em.

Overall I don't think anyone would argue with the fact that Baron is the better point guard, but last night you've gotta give it up to Maryland alum Steve Blake. The guy was money. Even as a Warriors fan, I was bummed to see him leave the game. He deserved a career high (fell one point short) the way he was playing. The Warriors will get the upper hand next time!
  • jfranzen
Any time your fourth or fifth best player overall can be the best player on the floor, and your team gets the win, fans should celebrate.

No one thinks Blake is better than Davis for 82 games a year.
No one can argue that Golden State is better than Portland, because the record is the record.
If Golden State's GM could trade rosters with Portland, he would.
Blake is a good guy with very little style. Davis is straight pimp.

Tell these fools G.O. BLAZERS WILL DOMINATE!!!!!!!
    • IntoTheBreach
Good luck with the rehab, Greg. There are plenty of good passing guards on this team, so you should get the ball in a position to score a lot. And it won't hurt if Blake's still shooting the lights out. The Blazers should be ridiculous next year.
      • JReddish
And Greg, if you want to be the West Coast correspondent for East Coast Bias, we may have an opening.

I'll just need Mike Conley, Sr.'s contact info and we'll get rolling.

        Greg? You there Greg?
    • kgoon1590
that's the word laid down by the the great god oden.

since he's a little older and more mature than all of us young folk, we should probably listen.

next year, the west will be shaken up a lot, i think. the traditional powers: phoenix, san antonio and dallas are either weakening or getting old as to defy time. next year, i think we'll have the Wild Western conference.
      • JReddish
Kgoon is the second most authoritative word on this site on Steve Blake. I'll give Greg Oden first place since he sees the dude every day.
        • brienc
I take Kgoon's word as gospel for almost everything, but I'll claim that IntoTheBreach, you, and I are better Blake authorities. Kgoon's just a young'n, we were at Maryland when Blake was playing.

That said, he's right on the money with his assessment of Blake.
  • he was rolling. LAST NIGHT. 7.9PPG 4.7APG is hardly impressive. If Baron is top 5 on All-Star voting. Blake would be easily a starter.
"Yes he did outplay Davis. Before you try to talk shit you should look at the stats chump! You let us have this one huh just like the first game. Your team has no future ours does loser!!! GO BLAZERS!!!! "

Mr. Oden, please check out what this person said. I hope you get back from your injury soon, and please leave that town - clearly this ONE fan does not have a clue what he is saying, but that doesn't represent the whole portland nation, but he just made YOU GUYS look bad.
  • top 5 for PG or SG in voting before whoever starts to diss me.
  • some idiot posting on a random forum doesn't make the blazers look bad. the blazers have the most chemistry and raw talent in the league. they are and will be contenders for years to come.
    • jus10gee
      Placard_complete_small
When they make the playoffs and make it past the first round, then I will consider them as contenders. But, as for now, they are definitely not.

      • wutduhflipz
I'm taking it your probably a Denver or Jazz fan? Jazz aren't making the playoffs in my opinion. Spurs, Phoenix, New Orleans/Dallas, Portland, New Orleans/Dallas, Denver, Golden State/Lakers, Golden Sate/Lakers. That's what I predict in order will make the playoffs. But hey, that's my opinion.
  • "As it was, Blake scored 24 points in 23 minutes, and was 8 for 10 shooting, including 5 for 6 from behind the three-point line. Blake is now shooting 47 percent from behind the three-point line, which is 5th best in the NBA."

And he only averages 66% from the free-throw line. Nice. And his defense is horrrrrrible.

I now made you a favorite. I take it as a compliment that you would take the time out to make that account! So, THANKS!
      • It took me 30 seconds to make this name, but if that makes you feel cool about your self fine by me. This subject is over, Baron Davis played like crap and everyone on the floor out played him. Stop ignorantly defending Baron just because you have a boner for him.
        • jus10gee
          Placard_complete_small
So, just because I have a favorite player, I have a boner for him now??? Where's your head at, gayness?

You and MickeyD need to start a club together, if you're not already the same person.

P.S. I have nothing against gays/lesbians. So, I don't mean to offend you if you really are gay/lesbian. I'm pro-choice, do as you desire, buddy.
  • TheSportsGod
Wow, Steve Blake has started a riot! What's gonna happen if Luke Ridnour goes off one night against Steve Nash?
  • JReddish
For the record, Maryland fans loving Steve Blake has nothing to do with him being white. It has to do with him dishing the rock to the boys with swerve.

Matter of fact, we Terps hate just about every other white Terp.
    • IntoTheBreach
As a Maryland fan, I love Steve Blake because he's incredibly clutch. He shot about 95% from the 3 point line when it really, really mattered during his career at Maryland.

And the whole national championship thing.
      • ptowncboy
Don't forget fifth all time in assists in NCAA history!!!
  • ItsMrHarris2u
Blake outplayed Baron in a big way last night... but everyone on the floor could say that with the night Baron had... And why are the complainers trying to show me season stats, this is about last night.
    • ItsMrHarris2u
Steve Blake has one goal when he takes the court... it isn't to steal assists from Brandon, or to outscore LA, it is to be efficient, which he does as good as any guard in the game.

Steve Blake ranks fifth in the NBA in assist/turnover ratio (3.51) and is sixth in 3-point percentage (.473).

The team does't need him to score and Bradon gets a grip of his assists. Don't just quote season stats if you are going to talk about what a player brings to the table.
  • brownwarriors
    19 AST 1 TURNOVER.
Was that steve blake? or BARON DAVIS BABY!!
    YEHHH

THATS RIGHT BOIE sit back downnnnnnnnnnnn
  • wutduhflipz
Boom Dizzle is the superstar of the Warriors. He's just an all-star caliber player period, Steve Blake does not compare to him...not many point guards do.

    But....

    GAME 1: 95-105 PORTLAND!
    GAME 2: 91-109 PORTLAND!
Was that the warriors? or the BLAZERS BABY!!
    YEHH

THATS RIGHT BOIE sit back downnnnnnnnnnnn
