Now that it's all said and done, which of the two most talked about rookies from this year's NBA Draft will succeed in the NBA - but more importantly, which will help your fantasy team out the most? Oden may eventually help the Trail Blazers to a championship, but that might not matter to you if Durant is putting up big numbers on a nightly basis.

  • durant will probably put up good numbers in points and boards. maybe some steals and assists now and then. oden wont score as much but he will make more of an impact in rebounds, blocks, and steals than durant. probably a toss up right now but i give durant the edge in fantasy, but not in the nba.
  • Durant might avg 21, 2, 2 but he'll commit 3-4 turnovers because he's weak. Weak on this level doesn't cut it. Everyone is an athlete. He won't play defense on this level so the steals or blocks are obsolete.

Oden is the better option in terms of fantasy. He'll get 8-10 boards, score about 11-14 per night, avg 2 blocks and may even pick up a few steals in the post. If blocks and steals are worth 2 points like they should be, Oden is the better option.

Greg Oden's Inconvenient Health...

I'm a huge Greg Oden fan. He's from Indianapolis and played his High School ball at Lawrence North, which I lived right around the corner from at the time. Knicks fans can rest easy. The team's newest malcontent import, Zach Randolph, is not really as bad of a guy as everyone thinks. Just look how friendly he becomes on Valentine's Day.

Was Oden the right choice?

No one was surprised when the Portland Trail Blazers chose Greg Oden for their first round draft pick, but after a physical revealed no less than 3 injuries that may affect his game, his poor performance in practices and his being pulled after only 2 games to have his tonsils removed, they may start kicking themselves for losing Zach Randolph. The team hasn't even reached the playoffs...
