In my experience, one of the most trendy items to cover in the preseason is the topic of goals. I do not know the percentage of coaches that ask their players and teams to set them, but I would venture to say goal setting is one of the strongest correlated variables in sports preparation. Some come up with goals the right way, while for others, creating realistic challenges is quite a conundrum.Sport psychology literature warrants that goal setting is a very effective performance technique, particularly when goals are specific, measurable, reachable, and process oriented. Many people, though, do not know how to lay out the laws, nor stick with them, throughout the course of a lengthy season -- even a drawn-out week. More often than not, I have worked with an athlete who attempted (or was forced) to write down his goals, submit them to his coach, and then forgot what he wrote because he never saw the list again. Or it was not reflected on or reviewed in a structured manner. Sound fam...

Lakers Rest Atop Power Rankings
The All Star break passed and the Lakers still sit where they did prior to it. They are currently ranked #1 in all of the power rankings around the league including ESPN, Sports Illustrates, NBA.com and USA Today. It’s a real pleasure to see them playing this well, especially without Andrew Bynum.
Los Angeles has dominated [...]
Andrew Bynum is Gigantor
Every time I watch Andrew Bynum extend himself and dunk the ball or block a shot; he reminds me of a cartoon I watched as a kid called Gigantor. Gigantor was a space age robot controlled by a 12 year old boy name Jimmy Sparks, and he was bigger then big, stronger then strong and more if you listen to the song.
This is not to say that Andrew Bynum is robotic, because he's not...
Kobe Bryant and the Most Famous Pinkie Finger This Side of Dr. Evil
As you probably have heard by now, Kobe Bryant has chosen not to have surgery to repair the torn ligament/avulsion fracture in his right pinkie finger. Here is the explanation posted on Bryant's official website:
After seeking numerous opinions from hand specialists, Lakers guard Kobe Bryant has decided to forgo surgery on his right pinkie. Fresh off his Olympic Gold Medal...
Dwight vs. Andrew
As the Lakers square off against the Orlando Magic tonight there is only one match up to ponder, Andrew Bynum vs. Dwight Howard. Howard is the consensus next great center in the NBA and few dispute it. After watching him in the FIBA tournament over the summer, and the early season games, I have to agree. Thus far this season, Howard is averaging 23.8 points, 15 rebounds, and 2.7...
So Much for those Historic Bynum vs. Oden Match-ups
Wait! Shhhhhhhh. Did you hear that? Yep, that was Andrew Bynum’s MCL tearing. Lakers’ fans’ hearts shattering. Plus his career probably a step closer to ending.
Anyone else NOT feeling bad for Lakers’ fans right now? How much garbage was ...
Does Greg Oden Have MVP Award Locked Up After One Quarter Season?
Some experts are ready to declare the race for the 2008-09 MVP award already over after the first game of the season. Although usually having to wait a couple months before even making the first guesses as to who will take home the illustrious prize, some are already prepared to anoint Greg Oden. All this after he managed to play only a single quarter before rolling his ankle and...
Why Pierce's Injury Could Be Very Real
Aside from the wack officiating in the first half of Game 2, the biggest controversy could be the truth behind Paul Pierce's knee injury. For the past 3 days, I have read so much about it that I don't even know what to believe anymore.
Some say Pierce faked the whole thing, from the crumpling to the floor in agony to the wheelchair shenanigans to his eventual inspirational...
Lakers Still Looking At Kidd
The LA Lakers are 16 and 10, the bench is playing well and Andrew Bynum is one of the top 5 centers in the NBA but they still want Jason Kidd. They are trying to get Kidd with Kwame Brown, Radmonovic, and Farmar. Kwame Brown’s contract is expiring so that would give the nets some [...]
NBA's Top 5 title hopefuls
The 2007-08 NBA season proved to be one of the most exciting and surprising in recent memory. The Atlanta Hawks made the playoffs and gave the eventual champs a tough 7-game series. The Lakers won the Western Conference (57-25) and the Boston Celtics proved that you could win with 3 superstars on the roster. With the upcoming season less than a month away, excitement of the NBA season...
Marbury Off To Strong Start, Gives Cs Playoff Hopes Back
When the Cs put down the Lakers in the Finals last year there was a clear deficiency in the Lakers: a strong body in the frontcourt who can dominate physically as well as technically.
With Bynum back, the Lakers were able to shift their game to the gear they just didn't have last spring. Without Posey, the Celtics arguably lost that gear by significantly reducing the effectiveness...
