Just goes to show how worthless that stat really is...anyone interested in trading Amare for Brad Miller?? According to the stats, Miller is the better player...

Plus/Minus is one of the favorite stats of the statistically challenged. It seems so simple, but in reality it's almost meaningless.

this system seems as flawed as the BCS for college football

This statistic isn't monitored to show who the best players are. It is recorded for teams to see which combinations of players have the most success rate on their respective team.

It's well known that Amare Stoudemire is a better player than Brad Miller. But, on the Sacramento Kings, Brad Miller is a necessary piece when it comes to winning games. It would be difficult to judge a player on the plus/minus stat to another player from a different team because they are playing with different teamates.

I hope you have a better understanding now.

I totally agree 10gee. This stat isn't about how good a player you are, its all about what you mean to your team. In the case of Brad Miller it has a lot to do with the lack of talent on the team so when he comes out nobody else can pick it up. same thing for jamal crawford.

If you put Amare on the kings he would get you more than 26 wins.... Why?? Because he is a better and more dominant player. plus/minus is dumb..

but great for debate...

Anybody who watches the Suns knows that its accurate for one thing. The Suns are a much different team when Nash is out. This stat is a great example of why he is the MVP. I do think it means more for PG than any other position. You can sit a big man and hide him but without your PG your teams weakness shows.

yep I agree with that.... But Chris Paul is more important then Steve Nash... This year..

More important, maybe by opinion. But in comparison, Steve Nash makes Phoenix more better than Chris Paul making New Orleans better - that's a fact.

nash means more to the suns success than any player does to any team, at least in my opinion. Paul's having a great year but let's see what happens in crunch time, he's never had to deal with expectations before and especially come playoff time. that's the stuff that makes players great and paul will get the chance this year to move into that category.

You do know the suns dont have a better record than the hornets right??? The suns have a great cast surrounding Nash. Nash has never won a championship. So Steve Nash has not dealt with anything.... He still is without that ring.

Wow. never dealt with anything. How many playoff games the great CP ever been in. How many playoff series has he won. you get experience by playing in games and by the way the year before nash came to the suns with both marion and stoudamire on the team and better support players like joe johnson the suns won 27 games led by a PG named marbury. A better record after 50 games means NOTHING. Believe me!!!

also btw never said the suns were better than the hornets or that nash was better than paul. if you even bothered to read it you would see i said nash means more to his team than any other player and that paul has the chance this year to move into the great category if he can perform in the clutch. which he has never had the chance.

Better record or not, Steve Nash has the best success rate according to the plus/minus rating (and the Suns are only a half game behind New Orleans). Both teams have 2 All-Stars on their team, so there's not much of a difference in their supporting cast.

Karl Malone, legend in his own right - with no championship rings - was arguably the biggest part of the Utah Jazz's success. So, for you to determine a players abilities and their tribulations based on the number of rings they obtained, it's not only ignorant, it's disrespectful.

But, to each his own. If you believe CP3 is better, I can't argue with you. Both PG's are amazing at what they do.

lesajo, the only thing I was saying is Nash hasnt not came up big in the playoffs.. He hasnt won it EVER. You are making it seem like Nash goes all the way every year. He doeesnt. Nash is great dont get me wrong. If you really know anything about basketball then you know anything Joe Johnson was not very good til he got to the Hawks where he had to be the star. Sort of fits into that brad miller being on the Kings thing. that is just where he fits, not Phoenix. And I know a better game after 50 games means NOTHING believe me!!!

jus10gee.. You really believe that the Suns dont have a better supporting cast??? That makes you pretty ignorant yourself. I am not a Hornet fan, just saying that Stojakavic, Hilton, Chandler, west, and Jannero Pargo is not better than Grant Hill, Leandro Barbosa, Raja Bell, Amare Staudemire, and Shaq... I never said anything about determining somebody's abilities based on rings. I said that Nash has not done as much as lesajo says.... So dont call me disrespectful...

team*

you can have playoff success without winning the rings. nash has had playoff success and won many games. he is in the playoffs every year since 2000 and has only been knocked out in the first round once. 100 games of playoff experience in 7 playoff seasons. That is success; that is adversity. Lots of great players have never won it all that doesn't mean they didint enjoy playoff success. all i am saying is that I am sick of people putting paul in the same class as nash when he has proven nothing when it counts

also joe johnson averaged 17 a game his last season with marbury and 18 ppg shooting lights out for the suns his last season (48% on 3s). he was a good player on a great team way before he chose the big money and number one on a bad team crap in atl. so before you sit there and question if i know anything about basketball you oughta be aware of the reality.

Ok I know Joe Johnson had ONE good season for the suns... I dont know why you are trying to compare Marbury to Nash. You have compared them in two of your post's now. And I bet if you ask Karl Malone, Kevin Garnett, or Steve Nash if they have had success they would say not until they get a ring. That is just the attitude of competitors, and you can get used to Paul and Nash being in the same class because they are. Sorry.

Oh and Boris Diaw, i forgot about add him to the list of role players for the suns.

I will give Joe his credit since I am an Arkansas fan, he had two good seasons... but only shot 31% from three the season before...

Are you really Carmelo Anthony? I have searched you since you entered NBA. If you want to contact with me write me.

Who are you talking about???
