Warriors acquire Marcus Williams

So far, Marcus Williams has been a bust. The former first-round pick (#22 overall) clearly hasn't panned out, as he's averaging just 6.4 points and 3.0 assists and shooting 38.9% from the field in his brief career. That didn't stop Golden State from trading a future first round pick for him.

From the NY Post blog....

" The trade will be announced later today.

The pick is lottery protected for 2011, so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes to 2012, the pick is protected 1-11. It's protected 1-10 for 2013.

If it is not conveyed by 2013, the Nets get second-round picks in 2013 and 2015."

When he came into the league, Williams was supposed to be a pass-first point guard, but he now has a rep for firing up a lot of bad shots. It will be interesting to see if Don Nelson and his staff can turn him into a legitimate NBA point guard. The pick is lottery protected, so there's limited downside for the Warriors.

As for the Nets, with the acquisition of Keyon Dooling and last year's trade for Devin Harris, the writing was on the wall for Williams. Sometimes a player just needs a change of scenery.

What???? He's kinda lame and goes after bad shots all the time! I dont know how I feel about this one...

i think hes very good and has a lot of potential....good pick up for GSW after losing Davis

f*ck me.

what the f*** we need to sing ellis and AB s***

This is a great move by the Nets. Now, Rod Thorn and Kiki Vandeweghe can start scouting eight-graders for their 2012 or 2013 first-round pick.

Let's hope we can get the most out of our players with "potential". Lord knows we have enough of them.

Low risk both lottery protected but would ahve liked Crittinton or Lowry instead. MW was hurt last year and never really fit in with the Nets. He was first team all-rookie his first year and this story has the same feel as Steve Nash and Chauncey Billups early in there careers both under achived and the found the right envirment and i hope Nellie-ball is the right envirment. Nellie trasnformed Steve Nash and revived BD's career i think he knows what he's doing...

good move good move. the guy is young and now this means we arent going to shop harrington for a pg

love williams, a very versatile point (learned some from kidd) and plays on a chip on his shoulder

I watched marcus at uconn and he will excel in nellies offense. He is also a very smart basketball player and could very well be our starting point guard of the future. I don't worry too much about this pick-up.
