Washington Wizards Five Part Reclamation Plan: Part 1- Sign Gilbert Arenas
DC has been getting quite the facelift in recent months between the new Nationals Stadium, a new football coach, and a general fluffing and buffing. I feel it is only appropriate that I lay out a simple five part reclamation project of how the Wizards can be relevant again ever. Stay Tuned for the next four steps of the process.
The DC area has gotten its collective panties in a bunch (again). The Bullets stood the chance of losing two out of the three players that I have dubbed the mid-size 3. Perhaps we could call them the big 3 once they win a series (or two or three) in the playoffs. Although, I'd really prefer if we just ditched the nickname "big 3" altogether. In fact I could even be convinced to go with a Musketeer aesthetic over big... ...But I digress. Almost everyone in the DC area who can pronounce the name Pecherov has been in a tizzy debating what the Wiz-kids should do this off season. Helping to narrow the scope of the debate, the Wizards signed Antawn Jamison to a 4 year $ 50 million deal. That leaves one third of the "3" in limbo. Now the only decision remaining is whether or not to ink Hibachi. Every know-it-all in the District of Columbia has been more than happy to tell their friends, parents, fellow fans, pets and inanimate objects their opinion on the Wizards resigning (or not) Agent 0. So as a know-it-all in the District, here is my take: DO IT. JUST DO IT. Seriously though, I can't think of a bad reason to do this. Gilbert is 26 yrs old. His career shooting percentage is 42.7%. His rehab is going swimmingly. He puts fans in the seats. He averages five and a half assists a game for his career (not bad for a shoot first PG)... If the Wizards can put together some semblance of a frontcourt they should be set for years to come. That is the main reason I have a santeria shrine built with Javale McGee's picture in the middle of it at my apartment. The only argument I've heard against this trade is that Gilbert doesn't play good enough defense (which is not true) and that he is too injury prone (which shouldn't be a problem for him since he is only 26). The Wizards have offered Gil a max contract (as has Golden State). I'd say there is a 90% chance Gil stays in DC now. ...but you never know with Gilbert.
