With the playoffs on the horizon, and the offseason looming in its midst, what is a free agent to do? The Mississippi Bullet is up at the end of this season, and he is looking to break someone's bank. What does it all mean for Monta?

If Monta Ellis has to leave the Bay, I hope he ends up in Memphis. Monta, Conley, Lowry, Gay, Hak and Miller would be a nice nucleus; though I suppose if the Grizz pick up Monta, the first thing they'll try to do is ship Lowry out of town.
  • adevault
I hope Monta stays with the Warriors because he has made an enormous contribution to the team. He is now on every other teams radar because they know what he gives and what he can bring. For this reason, the Warriors need to pay him what is worth....which is worth much more than what he is currently making! KEEP MONTA!!!

I first have to start by saying, Monta's jumper is BUTTER! You are nuts!
Second I have to say that I am praying he will stay in the Bay Area. I think he will seeing as how W's have the option to match any offer.
Third, and I can't believe I'm saying this, if the Warriors were mental enough to let him go I think he could fit in with the Blazers. I would love to see him go somewhere where the fans are crazy as the bay.

Like I said he has a good jumper, just not Agent Zero jumper skills....yet

I would like him to stay in the bay as well, but if he goes anywhere I hope he could come here.

I agree with GSWgirl. I don't think Monta will leave the Warriors. Besides...in all honesty, I wouldn't want to see him playing any where other than Golden State. He is a Warrior, that's his team, it's the perfect fit, it should stay that way.

we have too many players that are like monte ellis i'd rather make a play for elton brand

I have pretty mixed feelings about this also. If Monta goes, who knows if he's going to vibe as much with anyone else as with Davis - it's definitely something at risk. But that aside, I don't think Monta is ready to be the go-to-guy on a team - not just yet. He's relatively composed, so can the 12-year-old-looking shooting power fire up a team? But even so, you can't ignore the money - so I just don't see him with the Warriors after this year.

Thats how I see it. Its sad but I cant wait till the off season. As a Blazer fan it only gets better.

There is no way the warriors don't resign him. They will dump barnes, harrington, even biedrins to resign him. If he's develops a 3 point shot he's a taller version of AI.

      Placard_complete_small
With the way things have been shaping up with Wright I would not be surprised if they did that.
Although I don't want Biedrins in another teams uniform cleaning our glass. Fo reals.
  • nate77
I would like to see him stay in the Bay just cause it seems he has a good thing going there. But if he were to go anywhere, he would fit in very nicely with the Rip City guys.... Go BLAZERS!

This is another well-written article KeeganJM! Nice job...
    • KeeganJM
      Placard_complete_small
Thanks man. What he has going is great. If you or I were offered a better job in terms of money, or at least 4-5 times more then you are making now then you are most likely to take that job. Same with this situation. But at the same time GSW has the money to pay him as well. I think they are 22nd salary, so they have a good amount of money to spend.
  • adevault
    Don't dump Barnes...PLEASE!!! (LOL)
  • eagles42090
id love to see the sixers get him, they are a young team only going to get better and he would be a great addition to this growing team
  • th0mas
you guys are crazy if you think warriors would let him go. monta is a restricted FA, meaning warriors can match any offer he gets. warriors traded Jrich, just so they can free up money to sign monta.
    • JohnnyBoy056
You are completely right. Anyone that thinks Monta is going to another team is an idiot.
      • KeeganJM
        Placard_complete_small
I mean I know I am an idiot, but you dont have to be so harsh. I mean really do you know. Is the GM your uncle? I mean you have no idea what other teams might offer him.
  • KeeganJM
    Placard_complete_small
Is that just your thoughts, or do you have proof or a link to a story that says they got rid of JRich to free up money for Monta. Which would be a sign of great respect from the owners to Monta.

Monta will be in a Warriors uniform come next seasons and seasons to come, guaranteed.

The Richardson trade was made directly for cap-space; For the future signing of Ellis and Biedrins. Mullin fully understands who the future of the Warriors are - Ellis, Biedrins, Wright, Azubuike, and Belinelli - and he will not let any of them slip away... Well not unless we get something in return(sign and trade). Ellis was told by the front office that he is most certainly in their long-term plans, sees Monta as their future star, and Monta quickly obliged. ME8, has stated many times that he loves the Bay and would like nothing more than to stay here for the long run.

Being Baron Davis' understudy, what more can you ask for? Play with the best, learn from the best, be the best.

Don't worry Warriors fans, Tay-Tay is a RESTRICTED free agent, and even if he was "unrestricted", he would still choose the Warriors uniform. Monta is a Warrior now, will be next season, and we'll see his jersey retired in Oracle Arena. Yee!

To say they are unorganized it just messed up. They run, and old ass people dont understand that game. They say they play streetball, but its not. Trust me it is organized, and to say a team is not championship team and the playoffs have not even started is just wrong. Guess what only one team wins a championship each yeah, so pretty much everyone else it not championship material.

What more can you ask for?
How about $10 mil a year after making about 700K the last two.
Tay's restricted, yeah, but if Baron opts out, the Warriors have about 30 mil in salaries.
It's all on Diddy guys, he's slated to make about $18 mil next year but he'll prolly opt out and want a longer deal. If he accepts something like 4 years, $65 mil, then it's all gravy. But if he wants max money, 5-6 year, 80-100 mil, that complicates things.
You have to pay biendris at least $10 a year.

The real question is how much do you think Monta's worth? $8 mil? $10 mil? $12 mil?
      • jus10gee
        Placard_complete_small
Monta will most definitely make $10-12 mil next season(s). If Baron opts out next season, he will get max money here in the Bay - no problem. There will be no complications to the extent that Monta will not be in a Warriors uniform.

You're wrong, Marinman. If Baron opts out, we'll only have $20 mil in guaranteed contracts next season(Foyle was bought out, there for his contract does not affect the cap). Leaving us with more than enough cap room, buddy. It's the resigning of our role players that I'm worried about - Barnes, Azubuike, Watson, Croshere, Pietrus. If there are problems with them, the free-agency market will be stacked with eligable players.

Biedrins will not make more than $8 mil; If he negotiates for more, do you really believe we would sign Biedrins before Monta?

monta is definately learning from the best in baron davis but i just cant wait until he scores his first 50+ point game like he used to do in high school this might not happen until he is the lone guard in the backcourt. hint hint. I wouldn't dare say it and get a response like rayj0101 got, because there's hardcore warrior fans on this site Im one of em
  • rcs360
I'd like to see Monta stay in GS. The only other place that could keep up with him is Phoenix. They chose him over J-Rich, that's gotta count for something.
  • Marinman
    Placard_complete_small
Yeah, it's going to be weird if Monta leaves.
But Memphis is sposed to want him bad, and will have cap space to offer something like $12 mil for that first year (the number would dip in following years, but teams often front load the offers for restricted.)
$12 mil for Monta? Would you pay that?
Consider you'll have to give Davis a 4year, $60 mil (at least), and Biendris will prolly command about 6 years 60-70 mil. the Warriors might get in a crunch. Say goodbye to Pietrus, Barnes, Buke and POB.

I think he is at least an 8 mil a year player
  • Monte should hook up with the Bulls. They have a athletic roster and he can be the man in chicago. Plus he can have a say in the selection of their next coach. He has the tools to be the "Air" apparent to Mr. Jordan with the right supporting cast. think about it!
