The Sixers come into this evening's match up with the Charlotte Bobcats winners of three straight. Their recent success is due in large part to the play of Thaddeus Young. The official preview puts it thusly:
Philadelphia forward Thaddeus Young is playing the best basketball of his two-year NBA career. In the last five games, Young has scored at least 20 points and averaged 24.4 points per game while shooting 54.7% from the field. Young has scored 20 or more in eight of the past 10 games, including a career-high 31 in a 104-101 win on March 13 over the Chicago Bulls in the last ever professional basketball game at the Spectrum. Young had never hit for 20 or more in three straight prior to this stretch.Despite coming into tonight's game losers of two straight, the Bobcats still have a fighting shot at a playoff birth. They'd likely need a Detroit or Chicago collapse down the home stretch but they're at least still in the conversation.
If you take a peak at the current standings, the Sixers find themselves in the fifth position in the East thanks in part to Miami's recent fumblings. The one spot jump is rather significant and would spot them up against Atlanta rather than Boston in the opening round of the playoffs.
Outside of the LA, Cleveland, and Boston markets, it's a strange NBA world.
