Me and @KellyOlynyk watching @CanBball national team practice. pic.twitter.com/txl0Q0BOy5 — Steve Nash (@SteveNash) August 3, 2013 Celtics rookie Kelly Olynyk was unable to play with the Canadian National team this offseason due to a case of plantar fasciitis, but that hasn't stopped him from attending the practices and offering any advice and help he can give. “Everyone wants to be here,” said Olynyk. “It’s really nice to see that everyone is so keen to represent their country and do it as a team.” Kelly will be busy hosting his own basketball camp from August 12-16 as we reported here. It's good to see that even though he can't play, he is staying immersed in basketball. We also reported Jared Sullinger's success at signing autographs and greeting fans at the Panini sports cards booth at the 34th National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago. Not to let Sully have all the headlines, Kelly posted his rookie basketball card from Panini on Instagram.    It has a certain Norman Rockwell quality to it, doesn't it?    In case you can't read what they have to say about him, it says:  A nightmare matchup, the 7-foot Olynyk can knock down jumpers from the perimeter, set up his man and finish him off in the mid-range, and work the post like he's doing the Mikan drill.  Smaller defenders can't touch his shot and larger opponents can't stay with hm when he puts the ball on the floor.   Pretty high praise for a rookie, even though he impressed everyone in summer league.  He's got a lot to live up to and I can't wait to watch him do it.  [Discuss on CG Forums!]

A Look at Kelly Olynyk at Rookie Photo Shoot

Today was the NBA Rookie Photo shoot and pictures have been surfacing on Twitter and Instagram of all the rookies having fun and posing for their first official photos as pro basketball players. The first to surface was a fun photo of all the rookies sitting down to lunch in their team jerseys. KO is sitting at the head of the table. I wonder if that's an omen? Kelly...

Report: Jared Sullinger should be ready by start of training camp

 (J. Dennis/Einstein, Getty Images) )According to a tweet from Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, Boston Celtics forward and former Ohio State Buckeye Jared Sullinger appears to be on track to play this season, after saying today that he was cleared for basketball activity last week. Washburn tweeted the following earlier today.   Jared Sullinger said he was cleared for full basketball...

Jordan Crawford Playing in the Drew League

I have to admit that I'm not the biggest Jordan Crawford fan. I think he's too much ego and not enough team and he didn't do anything to change my mind last season on the Celtics. I wasn't impressed by his socks with pot leaves on them and I wasn't impressed when he tried to start something with Carmelo Anthony in the playoffs. KG has earned the right to trash...

Why you should watch the Celtics this season

Can they make it work? With the release of the NBA schedule a few hours ago, the reality of what may very well be a difficult season hits home.  While most of the people reading this(hopefully) are die hard Celtics fans through thick and thin, the truth is many fans will not follow the Celtics as closely this year because they probably won't be contenders.  This makes me sad...

Report: Pistons could eventually try to use Brandon Jennings to acquire Rajon Rondo

It's the middle of summer, and to be honest..the Celtics hot stove has cooled quite a bit. Pierce, KG and Doc are long gone, the draft seems like ages ago, and the Celtics had their quietest free agency period in years. It has basically become a waiting game. Waiting to see if the team makes a salary cap cutting deal prior to training camp. Waiting to see if Rajon Rondo is healthy...

Boston Celtics' Schedule Features Emotional Roller Coasters

Although the first season of the Boston Celtics' rebuilding stage has yet to begin, the newly-released NBA schedule serves as a blatant reminder that the KG and Pierce era has ended.   The 1,230-game schedule, announced Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET, glaringly reveals how competitive the league considers Boston's current squad. For starters, their opening game will be against the...

Report: Detroit Pistons still interested in Rajon Rondo

Nathaniel S. Butler/NBAE/Getty According to a report from Brett Pollakoff of the Pro Basketball Talk blog on NBCSports.com, the Detroit Pistons still have intentions on making a splash even after acquiring athletic point guard Brandon Jennings. It has been reported that the team still has interest in acquiring Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo. This is according to Gary Washburn...

Celtics Will Open Up 2013-14 Against the Raptors

Photo Courtesy of CSNNE.com BOSTON -- According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, the Celtics will be opening up the 2013-14 campaign with a match-up against the Toronto Raptors.  Washburn released the news via Twitter earlier this morning: The #celtics will open up their 2013-14 season and the Brad Stevens era against the Toronto #Raptors, according to two...

Here's Proof that It's Officially a Rebuilding Year

The #celtics will open their 2013-14 season and the Brad Stevens era against the Toronto #Raptors, according to two NBA sources — gary washburn (@GwashNBAGlobe) August 6, 2013 We knew when Danny traded Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett that the Celtics were officially rebuilding. But that point was driven home this morning when I saw the above tweet from Gary Washburn of the Globe...

Your Morning Dump… Where Robert Parish has advice for Paul Pierce and hope for Rajon Rondo

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. So how’d that Hornets jersey feel? “Un-com-fortable,” Parish said. “In my mind, I would always be a Celtic. I was very thankful and humbled that the Hornets saw fit to allow me to play a couple more years...

SQ#58—Why No OTA’s for NBA

As I contemplate the Green silence (and if you think the Celtics’ traffic drops off, the rest of the league is a wasteland), it occurs to me that the NFL fans are digesting reports of OTA’s (offseason team activities I believe) in the months leading up to their training camps.  Which beggars the question, why no OTA’s for NBA teams?  Well for one thing, I think they are...

Report: Celtics will open their season against the Raptors

Per Gary Washburn. The #celtics will open their 2013-14 season and the Brad Stevens era against the Toronto #Raptors, according to two NBA sources — gary washburn (@GwashNBAGlobe) August 6, 2013 Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore. If it wasn't already abundantly clear that the Paul Pierce-Kevin Garnett era was over, this hammers that point home pretty clearly. After...

Doc Rivers thinks Paul Pierce's trade to the Nets "may give him more life"

In an interview with former Celtics head coach Doc Rivers, Doc expressed that the move to Brooklyn could possibly rejuvenate Paul Pierce and "give him more life." From RealGM: "I think in some ways, it may give him more life," Rivers said. "But I just think it's tough for him personally. Like he said in the press conference, he wanted to stay and...

Predicting the Celtics Week 1 W-L, Oct. 30-Nov.6

Earlier this afternoon the NBA released the schedule for the 2013-14 campaign and, if you're a Boston Celtics fan, there were more disappointments than anything else. For starters, the guys in green are only slated to appear on national television three times this year, all of which will be aired on ESPN. What's more, the first month of 2013-14 will prove to be a rocky road...

SQ13#55—The Smolder To Be Mediocre

The stories are legendary of players with such an inner drive that they elevated themselves from good to great.  Bird and Russell, Jordan, Bryant, Olajuwon, Garnett—all these players improved by leaps and bounds after entering the pros, and were known for their dedication to offseason training.  All had physical gifts, but so do hundreds of others that were (or should have been...
