Celtics rookie Kelly Olynyk was unable to play with the Canadian National team this offseason due to a case of plantar fasciitis, but that hasn't stopped him from attending the practices and offering any advice and help he can give.
“Everyone wants to be here,” said Olynyk. “It’s really nice to see that everyone is so keen to represent their country and do it as a team.”
Kelly will be busy hosting his own basketball camp from August 12-16 as we reported here. It's good to see that even though he can't play, he is staying immersed in basketball. We also reported Jared Sullinger's success at signing autographs and greeting fans at the Panini sports cards booth at the 34th National Sports Collectors Convention in Chicago. Not to let Sully have all the headlines, Kelly posted his rookie basketball card from Panini on Instagram. It has a certain Norman Rockwell quality to it, doesn't it?
In case you can't read what they have to say about him, it says:
A nightmare matchup, the 7-foot Olynyk can knock down jumpers from the perimeter, set up his man and finish him off in the mid-range, and work the post like he's doing the Mikan drill. Smaller defenders can't touch his shot and larger opponents can't stay with hm when he puts the ball on the floor.
Pretty high praise for a rookie, even though he impressed everyone in summer league. He's got a lot to live up to and I can't wait to watch him do it.
