Found May 31, 2013 on Celtics Green ...a boston celtics blog.:
June is going to be a very crucial month of the off season. Decisions must be made about players and about the draft. On July 1, as free agency begins, we will know a lot more about the direction that the Celtics may be going in for next season. We are getting tidbits of information, or non-information as the case may be, but even the information we have so far is not certain. At the draft combine, Danny came out and said that Doc was definitely coming back and the Celtics have the coach everyone else wants. He said that he and Doc are having discussions about next year. So, we all dutifully reported that Doc would be back. Then, we started to hear ripples of concern that Doc hasn't confirmed his decision. Two weeks have passed and we haven't yet heard from Doc himself that he is coming back. An article in today's Herald voices these concerns. It’s a question with which the Celtics seem to be struggling. According to some folks who have basketball business with the club, there is growing concern that Doc Rivers has yet to make a public declaration he will continue to lead from the bench. He has remained in regular contact with the Celts, discussing the team’s direction for next season and beyond . . . but the definitive word has been yet unheard. Into this verbal void has come speculation that: A) Doc wants to take it easy (read: TV job) for a couple of years; B) He doesn’t want to be soiled by the Celtics rebuilding project; C) He and Danny Ainge are not on the same page, and D) all of the above. Yesterday Jackie MacMullan was on Sports Tonight and said she heard that KG is coming back for one more year. In the past, KG has said that he doesn't want to play for any coach other than Doc. He has also said that his career in Boston is intertwined with that of Paul Pierce. So, now we wonder until we get some confirmation on something, are the rumors that KG is returning confirmation that Doc is returning? Does this mean that Paul Pierce will be back? Is it even true that KG will be back? I have a lot of respect for Jackie MacMullan, but just as with Doc, until we hear the words out of KG's mouth, we can't be sure of anything. Now, onto the draft rumors. The Celtics have been working out mostly centers and point guards. Some of the players the Celtics have brought in are expected to be gone before the Celtics pick at 16 and some should be around through the 2nd round. Danny has mentioned the possibility of moving up or down in the draft, and there is always the possibility of trading out of the draft or even buying another pick. We know that center and back up point guard are the two positions that the Celtics need help at the most. But what if they aren't looking for a back up point guard? Today we get the news that Dennis Schroeder, the 19 year old German point guard has a promise from the Celtics at 16. This wouldn't be the first time that the Celtics were rumored to have made a promise and in times past, most of those rumors turned out to be false. But, for the sake of random thoughts, what if the rumor is true. Schroeder has been compared to Rondo in terms of ability, body type, and style. What if, and I'm really just indulging in some wild speculation here... absolutely no sources, rumors or anything else to back it up, Rondo is Danny's big trade chip to bring in a big man. There have been rumors that Pierce was the Celtics trade chip but maybe, just maybe, it's Rondo. Jackie MacMullan did mention that Paul Millsap was Plan A. What is the biggest need for the Jazz this off season? Point guard! And what do the Jazz have plenty of? Big men! Millsap is just 6'8" but could play center, I guess, in a small lineup. But the Jazz also have Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, and Big Al Jefferson that could be used in a trade or sign and trade. I know that Rondo is coming off an injury, but it was just a partial tear and he is expected to return for training camp. It kind of makes some sense. If plan A with the Jazz fails, there are a couple of other options that Danny can try. The Suns desperately need some star power and need a point guard and Rondo would bring both. Marcin Gortat was rumored to be on the block and he has said he'd love to be a Celtic and so that's a possibility. The Kings also need a point guard and maybe trading one mercurial star in Rondo for another in DeMarcus Cousins would work. Just putting out a few more random thoughts. Danny will need to make a decision on Paul Pierce before June 30. I don't see him buying him out. The savings would not put them under the cap and would leave them with a gap in the roster. If he can trade Pierce and get good value back before June 30, he may do that. Or, he can pick up Pierce's option and then he can trade him all the way up to the trade deadline when I'm sure there will be teams who just need one more piece and will be willing to give up picks and prospects for that veteran who can put them over the top. With KG coming back, it might pay more to keep him. But, Doc needs to limit his minutes or he won't be worth much by the trade deadline. Here's where my fantasy and imagination is kicking in big time.  The Celtics have traded with the Thunder before, so Danny and Sam Presti already have a relationship.  The Thunder are really close to being a championship team.  They have a point guard in Westbrook and a good back up in Reggie Jackson.  But, they could use that veteran scorer to take some of the pressure off of Kevin Durant.  Pierce might just be that scorer.  And maybe Presti would be happy to trade Perk back to the Celtics along with their 12th pick for Paul Pierce.  Perk and KG mesh and play very well together.  Perk already knows the system.  He'd be great with Sully also. So, that's my dream scenario if Danny is planning to trade Pierce.   Then we keep Rondo and have our center and draft  a center project with #12 and the back up PG with #16 and we are set.    Sounds good to me.    [Discuss on CG Forums!]

Good trade market for Pierce?

Healthy Interest in Pierce Around the League - Celtics Weighing Their Options

The Herald today is reporting that Danny still hasn't spoken with Paul Pierce or Kevin Garnett. But he did say that he speaks with Doc daily. Just my opinion, but Danny isn't going to be talking to Doc every day if he's not planning on coming back, especially after Danny made the public proclamation that Doc will be back next season. I'm still thinking all the...

Ainge: no decision made on Paul Pierce's future

Rumors have been flying and swirling around regarding Boston's intentions with long-time forward Paul Pierce. Many believe Boston will buy out the remaining year at $15.3 million because Pierce's contract is only guaranteed for $4 million for next season. If that were to happen, it would be an unfortunate way for Pierce's 15-year run in Boston to end -- especially after...

For the Celtics: one more year?

Kevin Garnett is the domino that needs to fall for the Celtics plans to become clear It was difficult to write an eulogy at the end of the Boston Celtics’ season almost a month ago, mostly because it was completely unknown whether or not the Boston Celtics would actually be ending. The Boston Celtics best option for next season may be year 7 of a 3 year plan

There are a million questions regarding the state of the Boston Celtics right now.  Doc Rivers is likely going to be the coach next year, but we’re not 100% sure.  Kevin Garnett might retire, and he says he doesn’t want to play there without Paul Pierce.  Pierce’s skills are no longer worth the $15+ million he’s due to be paid next season, but I don’t see the alternatives...

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. DevonTe's Discussions

With a lot of uncertainty for the Boston Celtics there are a lot of things that are making me, as a fan, go nuts. We don't know what the Celtics will do with Paul Pierce, and we don't know if Kevin Garnett coming back.  The only thing that we know so far as fans is that Jared Sullinger is on track to be back before training camp. Also, Rajon Rondo should be back and ready...

Draft Profile: Dennis Schröder

The Celtics offseason is filled with questions.  Will Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett return? How will Rajon Rondo and Jared Sullinger recover their respective injuries?  Will Danny Ainge decide to retool or rebuild?  The fact that the C’s will be picking 16th in June’s NBA Draft remains the one certainty amidst their summer chaos.  However, given the number of directions that...

What the Hell Happened to...Rodney Rogers?

Sometimes I think back to that celebration on June 17, 2008.  The little green and gold and black confetti falling on the Garden floor.  I see an elated Kevin Garnett bellowing "Anything Is Possible."  I see an almost-childlike Ray Allen gleefully skipping across the parquet.  I see Glen Davis and Leon Powe and Paul Pierce huddled up yelling "Hoo-rah, Celtics,...
