Minnesota Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman returned to the team after a three-week absence to be with his ailing wife. Adelman's wife, Mary Kay, is being treated for an undisclosed illness. Adelman coached the team during practice Monday and told reporters that he plans to coach Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Clippers. He said his wife's condition is improving. "It's hard," Adelman said. "I've never done this. It's never happened. But there's some things that are more important than basketball or anything else. I think the team understands that. Hopefully things will settle down here now." Assistant coach Terry Porter has filled in for Adelman, who has kept in constant contact with the team throughout his absence. The Timberwolves went 2-9 without Adelman. They have also been plagued with injuries to stars Kevin Love and Brandon Roy, among others, and point guard Ricky Rubio is still recovering from a torn left ACL. Minnesota (17-24) has lost four straight games.
