Wildcat Blue Nation:
One of the Kentucky Wildcat's top targets in the 2012 class, Alex Poythress is slated to make his college decision on Thursday. It has been an interesting recruitment for Alex Poythress who has been the subject of not one, but two possible NCAA recruiting violations this year. Although there has been nothing official, both Coach K and Luke Walton (representing Memphis) may have run afoul of a secondary violation. It's also an interesting recruitment because as recently as a week or two ago, Alex Poythress seemed a solid Kentucky lean. He may still be, but recent rumors and speculation have given Memphis momentum and some feel that Memphis now holds the inside track. Poythress is officially considering UK, Memphis, Florida, Vandy, and Tennessee but it will be a huge shock if anyone but UK or Memphis is chosen.
Poythress is about as big of a recruit as there is right now for Kentucky, except for maybe Shabazz Muhammad. Alex is ranked the 8th highest PF in the 2012 class and the PF is class is full of players that were recruited by Kentucky but went elsewhere like Mitch McGary, Perry Ellis, and Brandon Ashley.
It's not the end of the world if Kentucky does not get Poythress ... yet. Number five ranked PF Jarnell Stokes (from Memphis ironically) was in Lexington this weekend and tweeted very enthusiastically about his visit. You would think Kentucky has a good chance at him as well if Poythress goes elsewhere, but it will hurt if we do not get Alex.
Who will he pick? At the moment, Kentucky is still a very real destination, but I would have to say that at the moment it is a 50-50 call. Keep following www.wildcatbluenation.com for the best in Kentucky basketball and football news, rumors, and opinions. By Kentucky fans for Kentucky fans
