When the Wachovia Center (or the First Union Center, CoreStates Center or whichever of the numerous names the Sixers’ home venue has been called) was really rocking during the Allen Iverson years, the gritty guard would bounce around the court, holding his hand up to his ear, inviting the Philadelphia fans to roar louder and louder. The Sixers are celebrating their 50th birthday, and as part of the celebration they are asking their fans to name their favorite moment in the franchise’s history. With Iverson back in the building Saturday for his bobblehead night, the former NBA Most Valuable Player was asked for his top moment as a Sixer. Iverson’s answer was somewhat surprising, since it was not an on-court moment at all. “I would say my favorite moment was when they hired Larry Brown,” Iverson told Sixers.com reporter Ayla Brown. “Because he took my game to another level. His knowledge of basketball took me to another level as far as being a player. I’m grateful to him and that’s why I feel like that was my best moment as far as being a Sixer.” Iverson’s feelings for Brown are a far cry from the tension that existed between the two for much of their tenure together in Philadelphia. The two butted heads for the first three years of their relationship before finding a happy medium in 2000-01. Surrounded by a group of selfless, defense-first players that complement Iverson’s offensive skills, the Sixers went to the NBA Finals and Iverson won league MVP.
