When Andrew Bynum came to the Philadelphia 76ers, he was full of promise, and hoped to bring some excitement to the Sixers. Instead, he brought neither. Bynum hasn't played one game this season, and has gotten more run from his hair styles than anything else.Andrew Bynum, the Roots next drummer? Now the big question for the 76ers is what do they do with their big man? Bynum is an unrestricted free agent after this season. Obviously, Philly could sign him, but Bynum is looking for a max contract. And that's the rub. Philadelphia will more than likely miss the playoffs this year, after being the 8th seed last season. Even worse than missing the playoffs, they are dead last (as of today) in team scoring at 92.9 points per game. With Bill Russell's knees, Andrew Bynum can't fix that.Spencer Hawes has done a serviceable job of being the starting center for the Sixers, averaging 11 points and 7 rebounds. Keep in mind, I said serviceable, not spectacular. While Dwight Howard will be the main course this off season, Bynum will certainly be a nice side attraction for those following NBA free agency. That being said, for the Sixers to make the jump, and be competitive in the East, Bynum is not the answer. The Sixers need to build young, especially since other teams ahead of them are starting to age, and will soon be falling off. Boston anyone? And with the Heat and Knicks looking like locks for the foreseeable future, there is no need to tie up $15 million-plus in cap space with Bynum with his playing time in limbo.Sure, Philly could go after other free agents such as Josh Smith and Al Jefferson, but should steer clear of Bynum and let another club take that risk.
